Gift is a verb in the present tense, gifted is a verb in the past tense.
No in British English gift is a noun.As I wrote above the verb is "to give" and for the benefit of those who need the help:
"I give a gift" is present tense
"I gave a gift" is past
"I will give a gift" is future
I understand that in US English there is a dictum that "any noun can be verbed" which leads to what I'm banging on about and I suppose trying for British English on this Forum is a lost cause which also annoys me beyond reason

Is that in the present tense?
Gift is a verb in the present tense, gifted is a verb in the past tense. People using the tenses incorrectly annoys me beyond reason. People tend to do this with "cost" a lot. No, it didn't "costed" you £3.... It "cost" you £3.
It's the same as the difference between was and were.... And enough people fk that one up.
Present
Nope missed the joke

Gift as a verb is also in UK English, it is considered a formal usage as in "I shall gift this cheese to the queen".
I grant you that the informal way is the more accepted way to say it (and what I and most people will use) is give as in "I will give the cheese to Liz".

When you can't even trust a tape measure
It's not just that they start from a different point, but 1" on one is only 15/16ths on the other
Reminds me of when we had some large and slightly complicated bespoke wooden double doors made several years ago after knocking through an internal wall, creating a hole that was not "standard" size. An old boy on the village agreed to do it - he was a time served carpenter who had just retired, so this was one last job. It's not just that they start from a different point, but 1" on one is only 15/16ths on the other
His son had bought him a tape measure as he'd lost his old one. He duly came and measured up, we agreed the price and design and off he went. Two weeks later he came back with the (beautifully made) doors, which when fitted had a 10cm gap down the middle. He was embarrassed, and agreed to take them away and redo it (at his expense), obviously concerned that he appeared old and incapable. He remeasured the gap to be sure, and the problem became apparent - the cheap chinese tape measure read 87, 88, 89, 100.
We felt sorry for him, so covered all of his costs, including the re-work and a margin on top so he wasn't out of pocket. It also stopped me buying cheap tools.......

When the tracking info from Yodel states a package is out for delivery today yet also states delivery is expected tomorrow
Or Royal Mail tracking that states that the item has been dispatched and there’s no In Transit or Out For Delivery update at all even after it’s been delivered. MartG said:
The American habit of slagging off any product or achievement that didn't originate in the USA
American brand loyalty, and loyalty to their flag, is bizarre in general. In general Americans seem duty bound to partake in a level of national pride that seems extreme and somewhat at odds with their supposedly enhanced level of freedom. Their "I only buy American" stance is demonstrably false, and they don't seem to realise that "Made in the USA" doesn't carry any sort of weight anywhere else in the world. Girls on Instagram. My Instagram feed is quite niche, roughly 50% trains and 50% guitar/bass stuff. Every day I seem to get some sponsored post of some girl playing guitar. Usually her tits are on prominent view, and usually there's a stream of thirsty comments underneath. People regard the music industry as some sort of writhing, groping heavily sexist octopus, but in the Internet Of Things age I think it is ludicrously more easy for women of moderate musical talent to get attention, over men of serious talent. Wear a skimpy top and pick out a guitar tab!
Likewise pick anywhere on the map, type it into Instagram, and a healthy percentage of the top photos for that place will be girls doing stupid duck-face pouty selfies. Pick anywhere on the map and try this.
One of the PAs at work insisted that I added her on Instagram, and she added me at the same time. I hope she appreciates videos of heritage diesel traction as much as I do. Anyway, her feed is all bikini photos, before/after weight loss photos, photos doctored with weird filters to make her skin look better and her eyes bigger... I feel like a bit of a perv scrolling through that lot. If I walked up to her desk and requested bikini selfies from her I would be getting a P45.
We're constantly being told how teenage girls and young women are being made to develop too quickly, and are in turn developing body image issues. Somehow the blame for all of this has to be directed elsewhere; usually at men for some reason or other. Way too many of these Instagrammers are parading themselves out there in the delusional belief that they are models or 'Insta famous' or otherwise worthy of attention, adoration and freebies. Conversely a lot of their followers appear to be randy middle eastern chaps and bots. This is a sort of 'false spotlight' effect, but it comes from these girls themselves. It seems convenient to pretend that these unrealistic standards applied to woman and girls comes from 'the patriarchy' rather than... other women and girls!
And these wee girls are all developing anxiety, stress, body dysphoria, yet nobody is pointing out that you can delete these apps. We have to imagine they are shackled to this system somehow.

Working as designed. Measuring to or from, adjusts for the thickness of the tang.
You wonder why the hooky bit is always a bit loose.....
Rubbish. Everyone knows why the tang is a bit loose, but that doesn't explain what's going on here. Also look at the measurements between say the 1" and 2" marks - different by 1/16th.You wonder why the hooky bit is always a bit loose.....

+1I know a 20 something woman who has a Facebook page full of that kind of ridiculous pose, yet in real life she is perfectly sensible and well on her way to becoming well known in her professional field and may well be borderline famous within a year or two.
Admittedly at social events she (in the words of one of her friends) 'doesn't recognise the concept of overdressed' but still looks far better than in her Facebook pictures. Come to think of it her Facebook presence is probably cancelling out her Linkedin presence as far as professional development goes.

It's been going on for decades via women's fashion/lifestyle magazines, all of which are jam-packed with 'advice' for girls to make themselves 'attractive' - the unspoken assumption being that they must do this to get themselves a husband MartG said:

I don't think it's even about husband hunting, more a case of showing that they have spent time and money on their appearance. A girl who doesn't bother so much is looked down on even though the boys may find her more attractive. I suppose the male equivalent is fitting their Vauxhall Corsa with wide wheels and a spoiler to make it look, er, coarser.Gassing Station | The Lounge | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
