One of my hobbies is to not watch certain TV programmes. I specialise in not watching EastEnders and Coronation Street, and I particularly enjoy not watching Strictly Come Dancing or any football match.
I used i watch football and enjoyed it, until they all started getting down on one knee. Now I can't stomach it.

Sounds like you believe none of those shows are particularly entertaining. As long as you don't start preaching to people who do watch those shows I reckon it will be reet.

Anyway, to move on from religion (always a good idea) Corn Tacos are so much nicer than those soft things they do in authentic Mexican restaurants.

Not Taco Bell (obviously), but give me an Old El Paso dinner kit and mince, salad, cheese and salsa, I'll knock the "proper" stuff out the park.

Does part of that hobby involve telling people who watch them that they are wrong, it's not entertainment, they are wasting their time because no matter how much they believe it is possible it is not possible to be entertained by such programs?
There is a name for that hobby, it's called trolling.

I totally agree. Haven’t seen a soap since the 90’s. Don’t do football although I do love the World Cup.

Never seen all the endless dross on tv like happy valley, line of duty, death in paradise, doc martin and so on. With a family of course I have to watch strictly and other stuff but I’d happy if I never saw it.

On a lighter note, my unpopular opinion is that I am not interested in Happy Valley and wish the BBC would stop going on about it.
watched last 10mins as thought news was at 10 seemed ok but nothing special lol
It actually is something special. One of the best TV dramas this country has ever produced. Give it a go from the start, Series 1 and 2 are on iPlayer, series 3 is the one just aired.
Isn’t it just more misery drama?
No. But don't take my word for it. Give series one a go on iPlayer. Or don't. Makes no odds to me.

My wife and I have been watching Coronation St for 40 years, and we reckon moaning about the declining standards is the glue that holds our marriage together.

Use of the word decadent is the thing I have learned today. Cheers!

I disagree with part of your statement, i don't watch any of the tv programmes mentioned but am quite happy not to discuss them either, i'd find that more boring than the actual tv to be honest. If someone else is entertained by them then so be it.

However, i do agree about the anyone who says otherwise is trolling part

I stopped watching football when they all turned into a bunch of overpaid cheating jessies with all their fake dives and injuries. If you translate that into a work scenario that is nothing short of fraud and they should have all dives/injuries reviewed/replayed in front of a panel and fines and points deducted. Fines should be commensurate with their wages - 6 months pay will be a few million for some.

The only thing that will make me watch football again are random concealed landmines - that will make them worth their pay. biggrin

No, there's no 'parts' to my hobby.

Evidently your hobby is attacking straw men.

That sounds pretty good. Personally, I like Italian food, just so long as it doesn't have garlic in it.

Exactly
The people who knowingly set me up with the straw men to attack are trolls and you've just admitted to it.

Try not to be like that, it lowers the tone of the whole discussion.

Playing football on one knee sounds difficult.

Keeping the politics out of it. I like going to live games, I almost never watch on the TV unless I'm with a few friends in the pub. Also that means the local team, not premiership. My unpopular opinion on that among friends is that I think they're wrong for not supporting the local team but that they do support premiership teams in cities miles away. I'm sure that one has already been done but I'm not reading the whole thread to find out smile.

Thankfully she went gentle on me too!

I honestly can't see how what the players choose to do for a few seconds before the match affects the game at all. It just seems like an unnecessary point of principle.

Did you used to watch and enjoy it when fans used to make racist chants? Perhaps if people were more discerning, and boycotted matches for that, then players might not have felt it necessary to do the knee thing.

I'm not really a fan of political correctness but, if I were a black footballer who'd faced racist abuse then I'd be pretty appreciative of the gesture made by my fellow players. Even more so when it's done defiantly in the face of needless criticism.
