Tell Us Something Really Trivial About Your Life (Vol 32)
Discussion
My Goodwood Revival ticket has just arrived, I am as they say in some parts of Trivton Parva, 'cockahoop'! It's going to be a busy old weekend - Friday is Goodwood, we're having a new shed delivered on Saturday, Sunday it's the Mini show at Stanford Hall and the Cooper S is booked in for the suspension work I mentioned before on Monday.
Just had a Cornetto for breakfast...

Just one Cornetto? Just had a Cornetto for breakfast...
Give it to me. Oh, you've already eaten it.
Nij, I cannot believe you are only allocating a single day for Goodwood Revival!
You cannot possibly hope to see very much of it in just one day.
There is sooooooooooooooo much to see and do.
I so wish I was going this year.
Never mind, maybe next time.

I'd love to do the whole weekend but it's a bit expensive and I've got the other stuff to do as well, I get what you're saying though, quite a few people have said the same thing too including my neighbour who's been several times.
It's not that expensive when you consider the amount of money some people are prepared to shell out for a ticket to watch 22 blokes running about in their underwear and kicking a bag of wind about for 90 minutes.Just sayin'.

Meanwhile, some more pointless Mini trivia : last night I watched another episode of 'Dangerman' which was filmed in 1964 and featured the very first Cooper S built, '731 HOP', it was shot on 16mm film with in camera sound which meant the engine noise wasn't dubbed on afterwards - it sounded fantastic! In one scene Patrick McGoohan crashed it into a tree but a badly mocked up 850 was used for the close up 'damaged' shot. It's a pity it was shot on black and white really as the car was Surf Blue with an Old English White roof, very colourful for the period...

When you put it like that Glenners you're right, the thing is when I applied for the ticket there were only a few left and besides I've got the Cooper S booked into Stanford Hall on the Sunday. Next year I shall make more of an effort!

I don't know if it was your intention to get me back on minis again after several decades but if it was its workingMeanwhile, some more pointless Mini trivia : last night I watched another episode of 'Dangerman' which was filmed in 1964 and featured the very first Cooper S built, '731 HOP', it was shot on 16mm film with in camera sound which meant the engine noise wasn't dubbed on afterwards - it sounded fantastic! Me too. I started looking at the classifieds over the weekend.I cleared a space in the garage but it will be a bit of a squeeze to get any of my current cars in there, just the right size for a mini though.

I'm hoping the interest will fade so I can get back to the cars I already own....

So far today I have, mowed and strimmed the lawn, disposed of the two now dying off tomato plants, deadheaded the Rose's, tidied up the wild corner at the end of the garden, swept and tidied the patio and taken all the rubbish to the tip, patched, rust kured and painted (appallingly) the spare front wing and dented rear wing on the Focus, and now I'm finally sat down!!!!

Well worth a butcher's if you're tempted - but check the paperwork, see if it has any history etc.

Thought it might be that one - looks kosher but would need to see the chassis number, engine number and the date stamps on the wiper motor and bootlid locking plate which would all help. The commission number plate which should be visible in the engine bay looks to be missing, it's the same shape / size as the chassis plate but printed in red not black. It's been converted from hydrolastic to rubber cone suspension too but then plenty have (including mine almost thirty years ago). The bootlid is wrong for a '68 Mk2, it has a later single skinned Mk3 type with the flat indentation area for the number plate, some very late '69 Mk2 Coopers had them but this one has probably been fitted as the original has most likely rotted away and good ones are hard to find. The grille is wrong, it should have a proper Mk2 Cooper one with fewer but wider slats on, the one on the car is for a standard Mini 850 or 1000. It does have the correct instrument pod and speedo, badges, vinyl trim on the dash rails, stainless trim round the tops of the doors, bootboard and associated mounting brackets, and all the bits that aren't quite right can be sorted at not too much cost (except the suspension which I'd leave as it is anyway). Nice colour combo too, Island Blue & Snowberry White.
You’re as bad as I am with jeeps. You missed that the last driver had a squint though.Gassing Station | The Lounge | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
