A bund is a retaining wall. They range from small ones around machines to catch slops to large ones built like earthworks around industrial vessels to contain bursts. They are often ineffective. In a burst on an oil refinery for example, the escaping fluid will probably wash straight over the bund and in the worst case will wash the bund wall away.
Mostly right your Dickyness, this is the exact ones we use!!

The issue is where they sit on the edge of the coolant tank with around 20% of their base hanging off the tank!!
Same principle, different scale. The capacity of the bund should equal or exceed the capacity of whatever it might be called upon to contain.

Fatboy, you've forgotten your toothbrush.

And your passport.
And your bank card/Euros/Swiss Francs.
And your helmet.
And your après-ski furry animal onesie.
And your Teddy.

rolleyes

Do I have to remember everything???

I think because of the scale of oil and gas construction some words came from medieval construction as there weren't any other words available. The angle of the support legs on an offshore installation, for example, is the batter. Traditionally, a batter is the sloping wall of a stone built fortification.

Don't tell Battert.

Who?
The only Tom Watson I ever encountered was a lad from Glasgie who got me so annoyed that I hit him.
This was back in November 1964.

It takes an awful lot to annoy me that much.
Unless it's a politician.
Or a stupid fking speed hump. ranting

I was just about to try to visualise something resembling a combination of Battert and Slopes, but then I thought better of it and just thought about woollen combinations instead. wobble
