Oooh arhh yes 'Klansmen', bit of an odd episode anyway as it has a different feel to all the others. Recall very well watching the very first episode, 9pm, Friday 30th December 1977, strange how it sticks in the mind so vividly. Everyone remembers the famous opening titles with Pete Braham driving the Mk1 Granada Consul through the plate glass window but this was filmed in '78 and tacked onto to subsequent TV repeats and the first VHS releases much later on. The first title sequence has a voiceover by Gordon Jackson which was later dropped. Trivia, don't you just love it...!

Alas Dicky I have some bad news, apologies for bursting your whistfully splendiferous bubble of nostalgia but the dear old fut, fut, futter has been purloined and substantially modified by an Italianate tractor magnate with a penchant for making things go very fast and making rather a din...

I know a bloke who knows a bloke who's got an almost watertight cayak for sale on the Lower Trivton River if it helps...?
In 1980 I went to work at Badger in one of the first offices built in London in the 60s after the height restrictions were lifted. (Something to do with the height of St Paul's not being exceeded? Can't remember.) Anyway, the office overlooked the Chiswick Flyover. None of this has anything to do with the story of Terry Turner and his equivalence to Ferruccio Lamborghini. Terry had made a living building and selling Z-drives for river boats. You could motorise any small boat with an Anglia engine, a propeller and one of Terry's Z-drives. He was a funny old sod. When work dried up for his little business he found his way into oil and gas as a modelmaker which is what I was doing at the time. He was forever having altercations on the road before the term road rage had become common parlance. "I blew him up," was his regular phrase. It meant he had hooted at the miscreant. He was a Freemason and once asked me if I had been taught to be cautious. ( I didn't have a clue.) And he played drums in a semi-professional band.
"How do you play, Terry?"
"Club style. Quietly with brushes. Tssh, te-t'tssh, te-t'tssh, te-t'tssh."
"Uh, huh."
"Are you taking the piss?"
"No."
"Good. Tssh, te-t'tssh, te-t'tssh, te-t'tssh. Club style. Quietly with brushes."

I know a good Chiropractic!!!

Yes P5B, Klansman it is!! One of the funniest exchanges between Bodie, Doyle and Cowley is in "Private madness, public danger", Cowley arrives as the duo are shooting cans and tells them about a chap who's jumped out of a window while drugged up, what follows is,
Cowley- World chemical products, a man just fell out of a seventh storey window.
Doyle- That's police business!
Cowley- He jumped!!!
Bodie- That's his business!!
Cowley- Somebody slipped him a drug, him and half the staff there!!
The duo- Well, that's um, drug squad business!!!
Cowley- What are you two? Some kind of music hall act??
Bodie- Whatever we are, you made us!!
Doyle- Taa-Daaa!!!!

I think my favourite one of the old cop shows was a scene in The Sweeney

They are discussing what some crims are up to and it's been a long day.
Patrick Malahide says to John Thaw: Hijack??
John Thaw responds with: Hello Guv

Yes I remember that bit! 'PM, PD' was the first broadcast episode on that Friday night in December '77, but not the first one to be filmed, which was 'Old Dogs With New Tricks'. Anthony Andrews was originally cast as Ray Doyle and shot a few days worth of scenes but Brian Clemens and co were not happy with the rushes they saw, a bit of chin scratching ensued, Andrews was let off his contract and Martin Shaw took over. He then spent the next four years trying to get out of it! When the first series aired some of the critics gave it a right panning, citing the violence and dodgy dialogue but I loved it at the time and still do. It was sometimes billed as a rival to The Sweeney but their production schedules overlapped for over a year and a lot of the staff worked on both - cast, crew, writers, directors, the lot. Some of the locations were shared too, for example Southall Gasworks appeared in both series several times.

The remastered box set looks fabulous (as does The Sweeney), I sometimes wish it was still 1978, with me badgering my Dad to buy a new Capri and put false plates on it... my current slightly embarrassing penchant for wearing cream coloured polo necks and adopting moody stares into the middle distance are nothing to do with it whatsoever, honest..... hehe

The chap with the glasses leaning back on the windscreen is the late great Pete Brayham…

I used to live about four or five hundred yards from this spot...

Now then, the burning question on everyone's lip should be : what happened to George Cowley's limp, has anyone seen it lately...?

Since posting that at 19.54hrs I've been on carandclassic.com looking ta '70s Fords, oh dear, oh dear, oh dear... spin

No sign of Cowley's missing limp here, but I have unearthed an unbuilt Airfix kit of HMS Leander, my Dad's last ship before he left the RN in '64!

Not sure I can see it, I can sing "My Way" though.
The Sid Vicious version of it, anyhow.

Sorry I couldn't be there with you all at dinner this evening, I had to attend a strategic planning meeting with the logistics and co-ordination teams.
It was productive, we now have the outline of the bare bones of the skeleton of a framework of a working format of a plan ( subject to alteration ). and we expect to obtain MSA approval of the final format and routes subject to regulatory obligations being met in full.

The costings will be addressed once the final format has been established, and submitted to the steering committee for their rubber stamp.
The steak and ale pie was delicious.

I trust you all enjoyed this evenings' fish course? lick

Well, I made it back from near Leek, up the A53, over the tops, past Flash "( Ah-Aah! ), over the Cat & Fiddle, past the cow jumping over the moon, the little dog laughing, and some dish legging it into the distance clutching what could be a ladle. Or perhaps a spoon.
Although I couldn't see any of that because of the fog, so I may have imagined most of it.
At least it wasn't quite freezing.
A bit thick in parts though, limiting me to 25 - 30 mph max with eyebms on stalks and the help of The Force. yikes

You need bloody good eyes to see through these cataracts in the dark, I can tell you! wink

Time now for a quick treble snifter before bed, and then a gnurly start in the morning for Robbopopping duties.
Not silly early like Bobbers, but early enough that I will only have to get up twice in the night for wee-wees.

Nite nite Trivialistas. wavey
