The Clash
The Clash are the band The Rolling Stones could have been........if they were much better.
I enjoy your posts Twig but doubt we'll ever agree on this - to me The Clash were just posers and had no effect on me at all, just about everyone I was at school with adored them but they just went right over my head at the time, despite that period being my teenage years. The Stones cemented the bad boy stuff early on and every rock band since has more or less tried the same trick to different degrees. Brian, Mick and Keith could be properly nasty sometimes from the stories I've been told by family members who've spent time with them, often to each other as much as outsiders and it was partly this dynamic within the band that propelled them along and almost sank them at one point when the first drug bust happened in '67. Mick and Keith actually took a lot of the credit away from Brian as time went on, he came up with the riff to 'Jumpin' Jack Flash' whilst he, Bill and Charlie were waiting for the other two to turn up for a rehearsal session.

Being ever so slightly anal about bands you love - overated hehe
I admit I could be biased, being a 15 y/o in West London in 1977, The Clash were our band. But that aside, I just think they're great. I still listen to their stuff now, even Sandinsta!!!

London Calling is still the go to tune for anyone on TV putting music to generic overhead shot of London.
As a kid from London who saw X-Ray Spex at the age of 12 and loved all things punk...

The Stones every time, The Clash are nowhere near. smile
The Stones appeared in my town very early in their careers and when they wrote about it later they apparently feared for their safety . They claimed all the hard men and thugs had turned up at the gig .

'Smart' watches. Trust me, you were an insufferable with your phone before, now you're even fking ruder.

'Jogger' bottoms. You look a tt unless you're going to/from a running track or you're under 9 years old.

Using quotation marks around 'normal' words for some sort of tttish emphasis.

I mean the things that take ground coffee in a disposable plastic pod. The coffee is crap and they generate a lot of plastic waste.

A Klix machine is a thing that produces even worse crap in a plastic cup, isn't it?

It's not snobby to appreciate good stuff.

I've seen no mention of appreciating good stuff.
