Our local Eastern European dog nappers have progressed, they apparently now post charity bags and bang the letterbox loudly to see if there is a dog.

The latest comment is don’t leave the bag out, when they collect the bag they are looking for clues to what sort of dog it is from the smell or dog related items.

Someone in a van spotted taking stuff out of a skip. I mentioned that I would prefer someone taking stuff they can make use of, rather than going to landfill. Bad move!

Anyway - I've now left both local groups. I can't be dealing with having to restrain myself. For me, Facebook is now only for car clubs, Marketplace, and a small group of family members.
I've spent a lot of time arguing with people on local facebook groups, which can be quite amusing if you're in the mood.

There is a local history one, where they will post an old picture of somewhere in town. Everyone will agree that it looked lovely back then and it looks absolutely terrible now that the leftie greenie laboury woke or whatever local council ruined it. I then point out that it now looks the same or is better in some way and they see red and say that it is so awful now and everybody in the city hates it.

One this week someone shared a picture of the shopping centre from the 50s. It was a great pic with all the old shops and cars and busses, but the pavements were so narrow people were spilling out all over the road. The picture today had a similar number of people, but no cars as it has been pedestrianised, but no, apparent that is awful and I am a snowflake for preferring that.

I don't spend much time in NP&E on here, but I can imagine it is similar.

Does anyone else's local group have people selling, or at least trying to sell, second hand items for 80-90% of full retail price? just a quick scroll through the last few days shows a £170 for a phone, that you can get with a 6month warranty for £180, £70 for an Ikea lamp that was £85 new, £80 for £100 perfume bottle that they've used and don't like the smell of, £10 for £12 puzzle. Do some people see anything cheaper than retail as good value?
Yes
Very amusing
They're even better when someone does a bit of Googling and posts a link to somewhere where the item can be bought brand new for less. biggrin
Seen that numerous times.
Our local page is plagued by caravan dwelling vermin selling dodgy looking tools and generators one of them has empty dewalt tstak boxes (used) for £25 they are cheaper new .

we had an announcement a dog was forcibly ripped from the hands of an old age pensioner last night "operation deploy Karens to social media to find a dog" was immediately put in to effect.

  • Many posts by ladies helping said distraught pensioner
  • Many posts by ladies saying they have seen a white van
  • Posts by other ladies saying they saw two white pickups screeching their tyres as they went around corners
  • The posts about the white pickups developed into stories of pickups doing handbrake turns and occupants jumping out military style
  • Descriptions of people with Irish accents running down the streets carrying dogs in thier arms.
  • Posts by other ladies informing the police about Israeli style rendition of pooch.
  • Stories of horrific animal torture Karen had heard from other Karens
  • Demands for dognapers to receive the same sentences as rapists
A little later a post appeared by a somewhat bewildered pensioner exclaiming their dog had just run off but found his way home minutes later.

Further to the dog thefts. Woman shares picture of two men looking a bit shifty with the usual BEWARE!!!!!!!!!!! stuff. Claims they tried to take her dogs from her garden as well.
Only a quick read of the person she's shared it from reveals they are in Yorkshire. We are 150 miles away. I asked her if she was sure as this was the same people and she was adamant.
I said they showed some dedication travelling all this way from Yorkshire to try and steal her heinz 57 and she deleted it biggrin

Only thing is, I think it was a fake profile. Scant detail, generic picture and deleted with haste when called out. I absolutely think there are people out there sharing lies to rile communities.

Sad as it is I get great enjoyment from it, my wife is terrified I'm going to get stabbed in town one of these days.

Unfortunately where I am it's less of a sporting discussion with various points being shared and challenged and more of a moronic series of (at best) three word replies and people just tagging those they know (who usually aren't on the group so won't see the tag). It's not unusual for an "end of" or "do one" to be thrown in.

I hope this area isn't indicative of the rest of the UK but it amazes me how many people of incredibly low intelligence are loose on the Internet, I presume people purchase the equipment for them, sign them and then set them free as I can't believe they manage the technicalities alone.

The problem is, trying to have a reasoned debate is futile. They are very insular people who seem to seek the reassurance of others from posting or sharing fake or exaggerated news or views. It's definitely got a lot worse in the last year as people cower behind the door afraid of Covid and other people.
I left all the local groups I was a member of and it's quite liberating. I no longer need to constantly role my eyes at the nonsense people post on there and feel like I should comment, but know it's pointless and I'll just get in trouble if I do.

Apologies - I had an enforced holiday from posting...

No, it's a cheapie Russel Hobbs job from Amazon. But it has transformed my Saturdays. I can fry everything off just after breakfast, and just leave it gently cooking away all day, leaving me free to do whatever I want.
