Was at Swanage on Saturday. Had Jon Snow reported on the day, he may well have said he'd never seen so many white people in one place

Durdle door yesterday and durdle door and lulworth cove today

Yesterday and today were much more my thing. Weather and scenery were absolutely glorious.

This is as close as I wanted to get to the beach this weekend, approx. 2,250ft above West Wittering.

Fistral for the last dog walk of the day. Plenty Johnny Utahs still in the sea. Didn't wait to see but suspect many stay until the light has gone completely.

Meanwhile, every single living soul from the South of England seemed to want to get there one square yard of Brighton beach over the bank holiday weekend

Although it massively sucked working right over the weekend, I was glad to be driving trains away from Brighton rather than towards, they were like some vignette of a Mumbai rush hour documentary. Apparently the toilets failed on the prom too, so imagine how much human by-products were in the sea by the end of the day. A mate who lives in Brighton said he saw people just digging holes in the shingle and curling out brown trouts eek

Staycation? Nooooooo thankyou

Not me, I'm not sure why Brighton is as popular as it is.

I saw some sights at the beach over the weekend.

I would imagine the RSPCA were very busy given the number of beached whales that will have been reported.

UK obesity epidemic confirmed. Scantily clad gigantic people everywhere !

Two or three miles in either direction & it's wide, empty beaches, still with pubs, restaurants & cafés on tap. Brighton is crazy busy when the sun comes out. I don't miss living there in the slightest.

We spent Saturday, Sunday and Monday at the beach. Really didn't expect it to be so easy going on a bank holiday weekend. Saturday was a semi-private one, where the dogs could run around like idiots and the kids could play in the water, with only about ten others on the beach. Sunday and yesterday were at a bigger, public beach with about a thousand others, but we had a quiet corner and a really good time. Managed to have a bit of a surf, my youngest (2) gained a lot of confidence in the water and caught his first wave, my eldest (4) had a surf as well, then spent ages just jumping in the waves. After a bit of sand castle building, they were knackered, so a nice peaceful evening afterwards. With so many beaches within a short distance of our house, we really should go more often

That is my idea of utter hell. Why anyone would choose to be amongst that lot is beyond me.

Went to Hayling Island yesterday and despite not arriving until 11:30 it was fairly quiet all day and pretty empty when we left around 5. Very suprising!

That bit is just between Holkham Beach and Wells Beach (about 3 miles apart on north Norfolk Coast)

It's one of our favorites if we borrow a dog or if we don't biggrin

Super, thanks. Been thinking of heading that way in the campervan (with the dog!) for a look around. Never been to that area at all.

No probs - I used to live up that way so frequently go back as it’s a really nice part of the UK

Right now I describe where I live to ‘merican friends as “look at a map of the UK - looks like a man wearing a top hat riding on the back of a pig - I live in the arse of the pig”

Alternatively if they look at me like I’m nuts

“70 miles from London”

PS if you want help or info on where is good - stick a post up in the East Anglia section of PH - local knowledge will see you alright
