Interesting Tweet regarding the river levels in Shrewsbury:

BBC lies as usual:
Shrewsbury flooding: 'Highest ever' peak could be recorded”
For the record:
1795: level 5.70m at Welsh Bridge (climate crisis!)
1946: level 5.43m
2000: level 5.25m

Where's he getting the 1795 recording from? They didn't keep accurate records back then. Plus it would be highly unlikely that the measurement would be taken in metric units which had only just been invented.

His profile says ‘conservative, brexit, climate realist’

So I would imagine, out of his arse.

Don't forget to look at the percentage chance of precipitation wink
When its rain I always do. When its snow I get all over excited and lose myself. It probably said 0.1%.

I can't speak for Shrewsbury but here is the wall in Worcester with flood level markings. It's quite possible to relate the height of these markings back to the modern readings and datums. Quite a few places subject to flooding have similar ancient marks. So maybe not out of his arse.

From the BBC themselves: http://news.bbc.co.uk/local/shropshire/hi/people_a...

Recorded in various locations: http://www.cbhe.hydrology.org.uk/all-events.php?pa...

Presumably someone left a marker somewhere.

The twitter poster has been caught out many times though before (my wife is aware of him) - so read his posts with caution.

The Welsh Bridge in Shrewsbury was built between 1793 and 1795, so it is pretty easy to see how and why they would have been aware of river levels then and also why that's perhaps the oldest recorded measurement.

The highest levels at Marsh Lock, Henley, are part way up the Lock Keeper's house (1894 & 1947 IIRC). Nothing like that in recent years.

Snow in Macclesfield today. Sleet at the moment. Looks like the snow is coming in again.

That is the A53 at Flash corner, about two miles from the Cat.

For that snow warning ^^ It's frontal snow, so cold air hitting a low bringing precipitation. Fine, fine margins - proper knife-edge event.

Dreadful scenes, especially given further rain is forecast in the upper Severn areas for the next few days.

Bloody hell. Initial worry was the water would come over but sounds like they could give way.
