Jim, this appears late for snow or is it normal in your neck of the woods.
Snow can arrive here any time of the year. Last year, the only snow-free months were July and August.

I don't expect any at this time of year, down here at this altitude(~5870'), but in the mountains where Bertie is, not uncommon.

We've just had an absolutely massive thunderstorm on the western edge of Reading. Amusingly the place where Puggit lives looks like it didn't get wet at all, despite both Reading and Tadley absolutely copping it.

Difficult to compare as when we went into lockdown/fewer flights we came into this recent spell of good clear weather and down south pollution from road vehicles is a bigger factor. However one thing that is noticeable is the improvement in air quality.
Do remember reading that when aircraft were grounded after 9/11 global temperatures rose slightly and that was put down to the contrails which reflected sunlight. Although this could have been a Daily Star headline scratchchin
I remember that too - IIRC the lack of atmospheric emissions reduced 'global dimming'.

If the theory is correct, and emissions from aircraft are cooling the planet/atmosphere, we are in fact reducing any global warming that is alleged to be taking place wink

Strangely, I didn't see the ecomentalists really mention this at all... scratchchinhehe

TL:DR

I am thinking of buying a weather station.

Is this the right thread in which to ask the question - which one?

Assuming you mean one in the UK, how about Buxton?

You get rain gauge wind gauge etc as add ons - so there are different kits.

This is the sort of data you get - which is stored as graphs and stats going back years:

That looks good, Carter.

How much time trouble and effort goes in to collecting and collating those statistics?

Does the kit present them like that for you? As you may guess, I don't know the first thing about this. I don't want it to be a ten minute wonder!

If I was going to invest in a weather station - it would be the Netatmo. Toying with the idea, but there's so much data online these days.

It does it all for you. This is a screen dump from today's stats (can't fit them all on one screen!). This shows the year. I can narrow to month, week or day.

Away from weather stations, more things to spend my money on and get given the stare by 'er indoors.

Number 12,360 in the serial examination of what do some people use to keep their ears apart, cos it isn't brains.

So you were driving down the road and came to a flooded stretch, bystanders looking on. It contains a drowned Vauxhall Astra, water good way up the doors almost to the top of the wheelarches. Further along is some indeterminate Korean/Japanese/whatever A segment mini (supermini?) which is floating, you can literally see it bobbing about. Now you in your Citroen C1, almost the same size as Floaty McFloatface, what were you thinking? By any chance was it "Hold my beer!"

Yes Citroen C1s do float remarkably well don't they, lovely pirouettes mid current there.

I use this:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N5TEHLI/ref=p...

Which gives similar output:

That's a days worth. It goes back as far back as when I got it, last year. Another 8 fields underneath that aren't displayed, and a mobile app that makes it simple to look at when you're out of the house, with automatic uploading to wunderground.

That's the one I use, it's been a reliable bit of kit.
