Just checked blitzorg and there are a few strikes showing in the South West, who'd have thought it.

But what we really want is some thunder snow like we had back in early 2004. I remember that well as I was sat in a traffic jam on the highest point of the Chiswick flyover.

I've just got back from taking the woofer out and it was bitterly cold, mainly due to wind chill. It is a rare thing for me to notice the cold but it was proper taters.

Had a flash and a bang over by me (Holsworthy) lost all power for a couple of minutes at 4pm

I was looking at that Devonlive site this morning Wednesday was spelt Wednessday and Thursday spelt Thrusday. I cant believe that they dont have some kind of spell checker? What ever happened to proofreading and running stuff through the editor?

As a Devon resident I can confirm that the article is actually one of the better ones for spelling.

Half the (tasteful) Christmas lights along the gutter have detached from the gutter. The other half rolled up in to the gutter!

Some talk of a few wintry showers over the hills up here in the Peak District in the next few days. Nothing to cause any problems but it makes it feel a bit more like winter.

My eldest son is on a 5 day outward bound residential thing this week. He's going to be rock climbing, abseiling and river scrambling over the next few days. I don't think the temperature is going to be more than a degree or 2 above freezing. It'll certainly be a change from playing fortnite smile

Weekend away down in Cornwall, and has been a very blowy night, not much sleep, took the dog for a walk up by the coastal path, and its very fresh to say the least ....... calmed down a fair bit for the drive home.

Oof - just came in to talk about Friday. Another Atlantic gale, with quite a northerly component to it. Blizzards are a real possibility up high, up north. Currently snow even modeled for South Downs, Chilterns etc for brief periods.

Was up the step ladders on Saturday clearing all the silt from the gutters which run above the front porch and garages. Ready for anything the winter can throw at us now. Bring it!

Have a pint in the Crown and Sceptre for me. My brother used to own that many years ago. Quite a place in the days of market day licensing laws. smile

Sunny and breezy in Port Solent.

True story. Me and three of my mates were camped at about 1,500ft in the Lakes doing our Duke of Edinburgh Silver expedition when Hurricane Charley hit. hehe

I can confirm the Peapod, that me and one of the lads were camped in, which twice tried to turn itself inside out during the night, is not a good tent for those conditions.

The other two had some pretty heavy, oldschool style tent (Vango Force 10 or somesuch) and up until that night, we were the ones laughing, because our tent (we were hiking up hill and down dale for miles) was way, way lighter. If we weren't so tired, I think we might have been scared.

It was so bad the other groups (who'd decided on a different route to us) bailed out after they became involved in a mountain rescue of another party who got into difficulties. They decided enough was enough. The instructor, who was supposed to keep an eye on us (for our welfare and also to stop potential cheating with shortcuts) 'reckoned' he'd clocked us with his binoculars in the afternoon and thought we looked (from across a valley 1 mile away!) okay, so didn't actually RV with us until the next afternoon, by which time we ourselves had seen an air rescue for a fatal (exposure) on Helvellyn.
