I’m hearing Leslie West..... a true Mountain of a rocker! Gone to join Felix at last.... cry RIP - Rock In Peace

ETA, this tidbit: ...West also used a modified Gibson Flying V, with the neck pickup removed (he used the hole for an ashtray) .... That's rock'n'roll for you... they don't make 'em like that any more....

Although of course he is best known for using a Les Paul Junior. What a massive sound he used to get out of that.

According to Wikipedia, he died on the 22nd.

Very sad, Leslie had a tough life, his health problems were mainly due to his weight,
rather than the usual excess of drink and drugs.

Rock on Leslie, the road goes forever on.

The removal of the neck pickup may have had more to do with its position being where most guitarists pick, so if you want to dig deep without hitting the pickup, either you lower the pickup as far as possible, which reduces its output, or you just get rid of it altogether. Leslie West's preference for a LP Jr suggests he liked not having a pickup under his pick...

Such a shame, him Rayner and Sitwell were brilliant on the show when together.
