Who is ripping off who?
Discussion
Hi all,
I’ve been in New York City for the week and noticed the American Lincoln Continental looks just like a Jaguar XJ. Also the Lincoln Aviator looks like a Land Rover Discovery.
I know they were all at one point part of the Ford family but do they share common platform designs or has one manufacturer just ripped of the design of another?
Just a thought....

I think you're imagining things, they look vaguely similar if you squint a bit, but then so do most cars these days.........I’ve been in New York City for the week and noticed the American Lincoln Continental looks just like a Jaguar XJ. Also the Lincoln Aviator looks like a Land Rover Discovery.

I'm struggling to see the similarity. All modern saloons are going to look somewhat similar due to the restrictions of safety regulations and lazy designers but I can clearly see that the front ends are distinctly different from those two models and panels would not be remotely interchangeable and I mean not remotely interchangeable with an oxy torch.
To answer your questions, Ford did share a platform with Jaguar in the early 00's called the DEW.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_DEW_platform where a Lincoln shared the platform with a Jag.
But that was with the S-Type, the picture above of the Lincoln looks closer to a Ford Mondeo than a Jag. They might have shared a common ancestor but going back far enough most body shapes do.
Haven't found any evidence of a RR/Ford shared platform in a quick, 5 min Google, but again, most SUV's will look the same. China has been copying the Range Rover in the Land Wind.
