Youngsters These Days......I Don't Understand!
Discussion
As usual just because a generation is different to you (not you specifically by the way) it seems rife to pick at them
Nowadays it's great to be exposed (and able to experience) so much more as a young person, than someone who is in their 40's and 50's did in their childhood. It's a double edged sword, though - You may be exposed or stumble across things that you don't fully understand yet - that can be scary.
Is it some sort of jealousy that causes older generations to look down on the younger?
Is it just a lack of understanding?
I watch a lot of video game streams and video game content for example.
My Girlfriend thinks it's ridiculous. "Why would you watch someone else play video games"
But when she is watching makeup videos, that's OK?
Or watching someone else dancing on ice? Why don't you go out and dance yourself?
Now to me I see that is very odd, but, it's what she likes to watch, so I can't (and don't) comment.
Secondly, that's your daughters BF - Assuming he makes her happy and she loves him - that's a member of your family.
Thirdly, Because he supports a football team (I'm sure many older people also do the same type of thing) and plays a mobile video game, makes him act like a 10 year old? is that really the stance you're taking?
Maybe he thinks you're an old pom who has no interests other than "stupid cars" and that he wants to grab you by the collar and scream "stop acting like a 100 year old!" because all you do is read Haynes books on 1967 Morris Minors and polish spanners in your shed.
Older people say that young people now are addicted to online content , video games , Youtube , Facebook etc.
But often fail to remember the things they were "addicted" to, given the technology differences this may have been books, magazines, playing sports or going to the arcades.
Because it's not "wot our generation did" then that is assumed to be wrong and negative in comparison.
I really hate it - it does feel that a lot of this thread is just a typical "OK boomer" stance - The young these days are all snowflakes. Millennials are lazy and entitled. How dare someone feel passionate about something (football for example) and heaven forbid they play a mobile game.
The meme I pictured perfectly summed up my late grandfather. Never really spoke to him much, but he would visit and complain I was on my video games too much as a teenager
But then he'd go home and watch ITV for literally 10 hours. (?????????????????)
While some young people these days take the piss, I'm sure an equal amount of young people took the piss when you were growing up. Just as the next generation will have some people who will take the piss.
You just see it "more" now because, thanks to Facebook and Twitter, news (and people's opinions), someone always has an outlet to share their opinion.
Lifestyles change. Hobbies and interests change. Technology changes. When I was growing up it was Dick and Dom in da bungalow, and Tweenies. Now it's Pepa Pig. Who cares?
For fk sake, what sort of stty world is it where older people belittle / look down on / tease younger people simply because they are different?

I went to the remote Tan Hill inn in North Yorkshire, (The highest pub in England 1732ft) a few years back, and they had a large glass jar on the bar full of water with about ten mobile phone in, as a warning to customers what would happen if their phones rang...
(I doubt you would get any reception up there anyway)

Both things are according to YOU.
Of course they are, why would I speak for anyone else? I see these things first hand and comment on them. The people I’m talking about are going through life in a haze of procrastination and dreams that will never become a reality....in my opinion of course!HustleRussell said:
Its very easy to spot the contributors who are a lost cause in terms of understanding current social and technology trends. They are the people who witness the power and reach of connected technologies and appear to believe that there is no upside whatsoever.
Oh I realise the power and reach of connected technologies, I just don't think they should be utilised to the detriment of the people around you. Lordbenny said:

Agreed, I mean Man U premier league champions, delusional at best Got to laugh at the PHers with 10k+ post counts who can't believe their kids spend all their lives on their phones.
There's lots I don't understand about 'kids today' I use YouTube a lot, but I've only got to look at the "Trending Now" tab to work out why my kids are so nuts.
But, my parents complained I spend all my time staring at my Nintendo.
My Grandparents wondered out my parents could spend their evening staring at the TV

People do believe kids spend all their lives on their phones.I met a few PH'rs with 10k+ post counts for JAYB drinks, no one was stood looking at their phone all night.
How people choose to spend their time is none of my business.
However, when I look back at the mad and dangerous things I did as a teenager, drunken parties, people telling racist jokes and so on,I worry that young people are creating permanent web histories of their every immature thought and act.It will come back to bite.

Your single subjective experience doesn't really count.
Also he specifically mentioned kids not necessarily adults.

Can anyone explain to me why unboxing, or watching someone talk softly into a microphone placed very close, is a thing?
The unboxing I get. You want to see what comes with it before buying one, or you'r buying one used, and want to be sure that everything that should come with it did. Sometimes stuff is written on the box that gets overlooked in every advert for it. You may also get views of the item from different angles to normal adverts. The hushed tones? Well, not everyone is Barry Scott. Getting him to do an unboxing could be entertaining though.
