The solution will involve bodged shelves, not surprised masonry.
It was certainly startled when I tore it down to start again.

What Dicky needs is some sort of surveyor type, or maybe an engineer, or even betterer a builder type, now if only we knew where to find such types...………..

You have all moved to the chocolate box village of Little Faith just outside Trivham-In-The-Sticks and I claim my 25p Luncheon Voucher.

Dicky! How about just bolting the center shelves to the left and right frames?

Or bolting the ends of the centre shelves to the ends of the shelves either side?

( May involve drilling.)

Yerst. I even tried it without the end frames as if I was screwing the ends of the shelves frameless, directly to the walls. Still not enough. Nope, Plan #743 looks like a goer.

Current estimate of measurement/arithmetic cock-up standing at 15mm.

Fifteen!

Ashamed.

I wasn't well.

Hey, 15mm isn't that bad, it's not like it's anything structural is it? Oh hang on, yeah, it is something structural isn't it?!?!?!

I've been fitting shelves in the garage. Yes, in my condition. A hero. Last of the breed. All that stuff. I cocked up the measurements. Measure twice, cut once Yes, I know! Thank you. You think I don't know that? I measured several times and still cocked it up. It's a single skin brick built garage with piers halfway along each side. Between the front of the garage and the pier is 2.1 metres so I can get three 700mm wide shelf units in, can't I? Of course I can't. You're just being ridiculous They were never going to fit in a million years.

frown

They're folded metal construction so all I need to do is build a workshop in the garden, buy and install a sheet metal folder and refold the shelves 13mm shorter just for the middle unit and all will be well.

smile
It appears that sir forgot to account for the thickness of said folded metal in his measurements

Planks of wood as center shelves it is then!

OR how about bending the center shelf ends flat so they are like extension wings, then with just a bit of cutting and drilling you could bolt, screw or rivet them to the left and right shelves.

Move the upright at the rear next to the pier.

Cut a 15mm+ piece out of the corner of each shelf so it fits round the pier (and leaves enough space for the upright).
Put a bolt through the rear flange of each shelf into the rear face of the upright. Not ideal but only requires a bit of cutting and then drilling a hole through the rear of those few shelves which are next to the pier.

I could proved more detailed technical calcs and drawings but am not sure of the pier construction. I assume it is a traditional Victorian pier but given the inland location of Number zero, Trivton I am wondering how long this pier is, and what is at the end?

I would venture that it needs flying buttresses.
And plenty of futtocks.

I didn't get up early enough to see that.

Since disembarking from the good ship Pericoloso bed ,I have had a long walk and constructed box #14 ,my biggest yet .

It's so big I had to take it outside to take pic of it.

Pic later ,along with yesterday's riveting pics too.

Box is 4' x 2' x 11".

3 boxes of 14 are in use and #14 will be in use soon ,outside.

Now I measure them, the 70cm shelves are 71cm. It's a wonder the ensemble was only 15mm too wide.

No chance !

I can't cut a straight saw line ,my drilling and screwing is well wafty .

Box #12 or 13 has burst open one end due to the weight inside it overpowering the poor screwing on of the end piece.

The contents of it will be transferred to #14 and then repaired with extra woody bits to prevent further bursting.

Are you following all this guff ?....hehe
