An M12 fine is rather pleasing.

M7x1 is a good shout too, as my two "fun" vehicles have lots of classic citroen parts them M7 and M9 are used regularly (pain in the arse though as they are a fair bit more expensive that a standard thread).

I almost exclusively use unbrako socket cap heads as they're relatively cheap, black (so inconspicuous) and 12.9gd - not great corrosion resistance though.

I'm currently reverse engineering a bit with (get this) a 1 1/16 - 12TPI - UN thread (60°)... total pain In the ass. rolleyes

It all depends upon the application.

Do you mean hand sewing, machine sewing, embroidery, crochet work or macrame?

Here's a good starting reference point to help you, OP:

How about the M6 Gran Coupe as a compromise?

Oh! That's a rarity. Nice. Used on Lambretta rear brake cables.

While we're at it, we are well into the second page of answers, and nobody has yet correctly answered completely including basic diameter, pitch AND tolerance. Shoddy work.

I used to be a shop floor quality inspector many, many years ago, and can still remember far too many random details about threads, however, I'll go for BSB (not bsp), as I can always remember the thread pitch of every size.whistle

M12

12.9

Is there nothing this thread can’t do. Ok, so it’s not the best if you need a smaller (or larger) fastener....but for everything else it’s ideal!! !

...For me it's got to be M6, it's just a lovely size, not to big, not too small, easily available, a lovely 1mm pitch, 10mm A/F or a 5mm hex key and obviously as a 10.9 zinc plated, I mean what's not to like?

Asked a couple of my colleagues - one loves an M12 as he thinks that's the start of the big sizes, another likes an M3 (though he's an electronics engineer so what do you expect?) Another colleagues favourite was "Are you being serious you sad fcensoreding bascensoredrd"

So come on, what's your favourite?
M6 is lovely until you go looking for the 10mm socket!

It has to be a kernel thread. Every time.

A nice, heavy, well engineered thread. A thread you can depend on. Not as lightweight as some, but deliberately so.

User threads? Well, yes they're easier to implement, but you really want something with a bit of heft. Something with a bit of metal behind it.

M7. Love the quirkyness,

Unless of course we're not just talking metric, in which case, i just love BA!

BSP - nasty mess!

I always thought I was alone and a threads nerd.
BSP is not a thread for the intellectually challenged. For me, bearing in mind that, anything BA.

13mm every time.

It's almost 1/2" so you can use either spanner
Are you pulling my leg? There's no standard M13, I mean M14 exists but it's not a preferred size, an M12 is 19 A/F though and a 1/2" is 3/4 across the flats so you could probably get away with a 3/4 spanner on an M12 bolt and a 19mm spanner on a 1/2" bolt.
M8 has a 13mm head size, I think that's what he means.

I'm a fan of M8, or M2.5 for awkward small electronics...

I find that after about 40 or 50 posts most threads start to go downhill rapidly.
Saw thread title and I thought this was going to be about the length of PH threads, page lengths and so on. I then saw the first line, thought it was about motorways so I re-read the title thinking I'd missed something....

I used to do a lot of 10-32 UNF years ago and M46 X 2mm was another favourite.

Never been a fan of the BA threads or BSPT either.

I can see where people are coming from with their love of the M6 X 1mm though and I do enjoy watching our RoboDrill tapping an M6 at 8,000rpm cloud9
