Not a bad result! Although you might have to put it out of its misery, because it's unlikely to have been totalled by the mine.
Apropos of this, albeit somewhat obliquely, my friend worked for a spell in Iraq during some unpleasantness. As a civilian I should say, not in the service. He became fondly acquainted with a mongrel bh (canine female, to circumvent the nanny computer) who had survived two encounters with IEDs but at the cost of two legs; starboard forward and port aft. She seemed to manage fine and was known as Peggy.
She was eventually run over by a LandRover driven by a Filipino cook called Simon whose speciality was meat pies which were given a miss for a week or so.

I thought that was answered above. The donkey was being given a “lift” and was eventually adopted by the troops involved.

Is the joke that he thinks he has no side effects from the Russian vaccine, but then he is writing in Russian?

Yes. That's as deep (and 'amusing') as it gets.
