Any tips for a guy living on his own who has a fade on the sides and back, but length (scissor cut) on top? Used to go to the barbers once every 3-weeks.... not a chance I'm doing a 3 all over.
Do you have clippers?

You should be able to do that your self if watch some videos, it's not that difficult, just take it slowly.

An update for you all. I borrowed my Dads clippers... watched a load of youtube videos... attempted a fade on sides and back (started off with a grade 5 to play it safe and worked my way down roughly to a 2) then did a rough scissor cut on top as it was getting very long...

Results are OK! 8/10 to be honest at a quick glance... but quickly drops to a 4/10 when you see the back biggrin

One senior government insider warned "People's hair is going to get pretty long"

Who writes this stuff?

Shaved the job lot off this morning, a one all over. It was thinning on top anyway so it was annoying me as it got longer. I have been working on shifting a bit of weight after piling it on last year after an injury left me sitting on my arse - I was going to shave it off once the desired weight was achieved reasoning that overweight is fine, bald is fine, but not both - hey ho!

Anyone called you Murphy yet? laugh Sorry

I normally have a skin fade. Last week it went to a two all over.

Didn't look too bad! Plus it saves me £25 ago!

I’ve been clipping mine for years. Finally got permission this morning to have a go at No.1 son’s barnet.

I left the top and fringe well alone, planned to do a 4 to 2 fade on the sides and back. Results were ... mixed. Not too bad on the whole, he can’t see it and it’s probably growing back already. Try again in a fortnight!

First haircut by Mrs 111R. Just used some electric hair clippers, blade 3 round the sides, blade 4 roughly on the top and a bit of trimming around the ears and back. It's a bit too short on the top on the left but only by a fraction. Not bad!

You look like Chris Moyles.

How he looks now, when he's thin. At least.

Anyone gone bald ?

I'm tempted , maybe try a grade 1 first ?
How long is your hair now?
Going to 3mm may be a step - or several steps - too far.....

(I used to have a #1 all over, now my hair is maybe 8cm long on top....I decided to look less military.)

I chopped it down to grade 3 last weekend .

Looks st because it's to long to not style but to short to be able do anything to, think of the furry tennis ball covering .

That is uncanny, brilliant work my friend. Mrs Blue made a complete pigs of my barnet, so I took the step yesterday to set the clippers to 2 and go for it. I won't be doing it again.

That looks pretty good, I think that you could lose a few cm from the sideburns, but of course that’s just an individual preference, if you’re happy with it, that’s what counts.
Your hairstyle is similar to mine, except mine is more salt and pepper, mostly salt, and perhaps a tad thinner than yours, not surprising at 80, but what is surprising is that I have no gaping holes, just finer at the crown.
I’ve ordered some clippers today, and I hope that my wife can do the job half as good as your wife has.
I normally have 1.5 at the sides, and 2 on top, but I think that even if she doesn’t do an expert job, so what, I’m only sitting at home, or on the patio in the sun, I can always wear a ball cap!
Yep, that was the first attempt, needs a bit of finishing off as you say. If you only have 1.5 and 2 then that should be pretty easy with clippers. The top of mine is scissor cut so its a bit harder with clippers.
