... Not once in all the years I have done it has anyone ever said "who cut your hair? Stevie Wonder? They've missed a bit"
About a decade ago, I briefly saw a ladies hairdresser. Awards won no less! She educated me on haircuts and how to sport a good or bad one.

I am now INCREDIBLY picky about having my hair cut! But I can often see a bad cut from a good one. Generally don't tell anyone though.

Clippered number 3...or 2, can't remember which. Working from home, stubble length will shortly overtake hair length.

More like a number 4/5 get it cut man wink

Number 1 all over for me last weekend. Normally have a 0 on the back and sides, and short scissor cut on top.

I've had a skinhead before so it didn't bother me whatsoever.

Mrs got used to it after about a day. She wont do it for me though so I have to do it myself. Piece of piss, just take your time.

I quite like it tbh, low maintenance and much cheaper than a hair cut every 3 or 4 weeks, not to mention all the hair gel that I have to buy if I don't want to look like I've been dragged backwards through a hedge. Might even keep it, although I'm sure mrs will want me to go back to how it was before when this is over.

I had a long overdue haircut booked for the day after Boris announced the lockdown... As this is almost certainly going to go on longer than 3 weeks... I bit the bullet yesterday and zero’d it all off laugh

That has made me laugh so much top work.

I've been cutting my own hair for over 20 years as I hate going to the barbers, due to the inevitable hair going down your neck and irritating your back.

I do about a 19mm on the top and 15mm on the sides and back and no one has ever told me I look like a right , well not to my face anyway :-)

Whilst semi-inebriated last night I buzz-cut my hair with my beard trimmer. Wifey was a bit alarmed and I did scare myself a couple of times catching my reflection in mirrors/windows etc.

But, I’m quite liking it. So much so, I’ve splashed out on a proper Wahl hair strimmer thing. Quite glad now, and no regrets. Go on, do it.

If anyone is contemplating cutting their own hair I think we need before and after pictures!

My clippers came in the post today, so after work the missus just gave me a no2 all over and i like it, in fact I think its staying like this from now on. I had been getting a little paranoid lately over a receding hairline and it should have been shaved ages ago. Might go down to a no1 all over next time. Feels quite liberating.

My mrs is very keen to have a go at clipper my hair. Her viewing of YouTube videos combined with her confidence is something that’s worries me...

What she thinks I’ll end up looking like...

What I’ll actually end up looking like...

It's not hard to do it properly. When I used to shave my hair years ago (still got the clippers) this was my technique

Wash or thoroughly wet the hair,
stand it up as best possible,
Oil blades
Clip on Guard I used to do a 2 (6mm which sounds a lot until it's on your head!) MAKE SURE IT'S SEATED AND WONT COME OFF biggrin
Work from front of head to crown
Work from neck line up to crown on back
Go from in front of ears up.

Periodically ruffle your hair and potentially re-wet it to make sure you don't miss any areas.

Then I used to get someone to straighten up the edges (neckline and also top above your eyes) if you want a sharper look. (its virtually impossible to do the back yourself)

If you want it "natural" then just use a 1 (or no) guard on the nape of your neck. Be careful

Be aware if you have a funny shape head, it WILL make you look ridiculous! laugh

Don't go too short too soon. Else you'll look like Tom Hanks in Philadelphia!

Tempted to go for a number 4 in due course. Might try blending in a 3 or a 2 on the sides biggrin

Remember though. The difference between a good haircut and a bad one is 4 weeks. And as we'll still be in lockdown by then...
My best advice for anyone using clippers is to make sure you replace the guard after cleaning, otherwise when you go to cut your hair when you are half asleep you wont realise there is no guard on and you will be half way through cutting your hair, idly thinking "I must have been over due a cut look at all the hair on the floor" and "why isnt this haircut as comfortable as normal" when you realise what you have done. At this point all you can do is finish the job off, go bald and wait for the OH to say "oh my god you look like a criminal"

When I worked on site jobs a lot (all over the UK and Holland) I had clippers and just did no2 all over.

Zero hassle with the added bonus that charity collectors and other people avoided me in the street.
Apparently I looked like a thug.

But that was heading for 20 years ago. I’m now about a month overdue for a haircut as we were isolating before the lockdown, and I’m starting to look a bit homeless. This is the longest my hair has been and I might actually need to brush it or something.

The eternal dilemma, homeless or ageing nutter?

Very little hair here , I just use clippers and a no.1 attachment every couple of weeks. Have been doing my own hair for about 20 years now.

I've been doing my own weekly hair/beard No.1 for a couple of years now, I'm told I'm a handsome bd and that it suits me. No photo though, lest I disprove that obvious myth once and for all.

Chap who manages the pub that sponsors our Sunday League team is allowing his 4 year old daughter to cut his (well groomed, and quite long) hair tomorrow, having reached his threshold of raising £500 for the NHS (and then some). No instructions at all, she's being given a pair of scissors and some clippers, and he is keeping whatever she does until isolation/lockdown is over. All streamed on Facebook Live at 7pm tomorrow.

I shall pour myself a beer and enjoy.

Anyone got a link for a decent set of clippers, even if not in stock?
