We went out for a meal in the local village pub tonight, I didn’t mind the masks while stood up or the table service but I was bloody freezing due to the front door being open all night.

We’ve got friends coming next weekend and that’s why we’re planning to spend the evenings at home rather than the pub.

Have planned beer and curry with a pal for tomorrow night. Between work (him) and gym (me) we won't get to the pub until 7pm.The curry house presumably will need to be chucking us out around 9.45pm...

10pm closing sounds fine to withered old gits who would rather be at home, but I'm struggling to see how a decent drink and curry can be fitted into the same evening. Is this part of Boris's plan to cut obesity??

Are kebab shops closed for takeaways at 10pm too or could we drink longer and get a filthy doner?

The 10pm rule is ridiculous. Mrs BC and I were planning an evening out & meal next week. We’re late eaters and generally book for 8:30 but I guess we’ll have to eat earlier so we’re not rushed at the end.

Thanks Boris. frown

10pm close is not going to do any good though, I met up with a mate yesterday in my local Wetherspoons (yes I know) it was about 8pm and a group of lads that were obviously on the pull were on the next table, they were talking to a group of girls across from them and the conversation was let’s go to the off license get some beer and go back to mine.

I prefer later than that, I push for 9.30, but usually get her to reluctantly agree to 9.00, looks like dining out is finished for the foreseeable future.
As for pubs, I could probably suffer 10.00 chucking out if they were like they used to be, walk in, ask for a drink, sit at the bar and enjoy it, but ordering from an app, waiting your turn to take a leak, count me out, I’ll have a few vodkas at home thanks, I don’t care if I never go into a pub again.

A pub down the road from me has opened up again as it was caught out selling beer with no food when it was only supposed to serve alcohol while selling food so it got a prohibition notice.

It opened again to and have made a rule that is as follows

I mean fk off, you have more chance of getting covid while fingering your mask off and on going to the toilet, up to the bar, playing pool/darts etc. I've decided I won't be going to their establishment.

It's a very smart virus it know not to infect you while your eating or drinking.

It’s not a rule they made up - it’s every pub from Thursday (yesterday) onwards.

The problem is the pubs seem to think it's their legal responsibility to make people wear masks. But correct me if I'm wrong but it's like shops it up to the individual not the shop or pub.
If someone doesn't wear a mask and the police walk in as long as the pub have few signs up saying wear a mask it the person not wearing the mask that gets done not the pub.

Try and make the best of it.
If the infection rate doesn't come down the pubs and restaurants will simply be closed down again.

Wrong on all counts.

The owner of the establishment has to show that they are attempting to follow the COVID rules. They simply have to ask you if you have a medical exemption for not wearing a mask. If you say no, they should ask you to leave or put on a mask. If you say yes, then no more is asked (not for evidence, not for detail).

If the police walk in and there's a bunch of people without a mask on their person and without medical exemption then the establishment will be warned or potentially closed for not following the rules.

If you don't want to wear a mask then make it your problem and lie, not the landlords.

Firstly, it's all about a balance of risk. Whilst sat at your table you are supposed to be distanced or screened from other non-household diners. When you walk around, you obviously are no longer being distanced or screened and increase the risk. Risk, not certainty.

And that's a generic poster in every pub. Local Health Officer will require it to be up. Your argument isn't with the pub owner trying to make ends meet in difficult times.

Do you legally need to show the exception? The reasons could be person and I read it wasn’t required by law but some police officers have been wrongly disbelieving of exemptions

You don't need to show a card or evidence, just clearly state you medical exemption when asked. That's the end of the conversation at that point.
