I think it's called picking and choosing.

So you disagree with lockdowns because you don't like being told what to do.

I am curious as to how you think the pandemic should have been managed during 2020 before vaccines were available. You agree vaccines are needed so therefore must concede there is a risk.
I really cannot be bothered wasting my time engaging with someone who doesn't even read and comprehend what I write. May I suggest if you want answers to the points you raise, trot along to the "cure worse than disease" thread where this sort of discussion has its natural home.
Fully read and fully comprehended what you wrote thanks. I've no interest in joining a whole thread about it.

Anyway, back to pubs...

The novelty has quickly worn off if my town. Went for a few beers Saturday night and easily got a table, the reason for which was evident the moment the sun went down. Still, good to meet up with a couple of mates even if we were all home by 10.15.

ie the old adage. If Lockdowns work, why do we need lockdowns? If lockdowns don't work why do we need lockdowns? How long was Leicester in lockdown? Did it work?

I then say I had the vaccine because I am old and fat, which you ignored, two of the most important causes of poor outcomes with Covid 19. I then go on to say that I welcome the ability to be able to go abroad which hopefully is a by product of getting the vaccine. Now this you jumped on as the sole reason for me getting the vaccination. Bit of a false assumption there.

It is possible to not agree with, and rail against, the useless and dangerous govt's rules and regulations and yet see both the personal and societal benefits of getting a vaccine.

It called taking personal responsibility and making your own decisions. Some people prefer decisions being made for them.
I’ve just been watching today’s press conference.

Professor Van Tam just said.

“it is epidemiologically true to say that most of the steady decline that we've seen, the disappearance of our third wave has been down to efforts of the British people in following lockdown".

So he believes the lockdown(s) have had the desired effect, and he now believes that the vaccines should keep the progress going.

So why not lift all the lockdown measures right away?

It was pretty obvious this was the line the Gov't were going take.

Imagine admitting that the catastrophic damage you've caused to a generation of children, businesses, and cancer patients was all for nothing. Never going to happen.

Indoors is what you need though isn't it.

I found a place in south London that was open last year in the full lockdown, had to knock on the door and they ushered you in. It was operating as usual, full restaurant with food being served by waiters etc, football on the TV, lovely stuff.
That sounds like heaven!
Or a one-way ticket there.

Currently on holiday on the Broads with my 18 year old son. It's fekin freezing with a vicious constant wind howling in from the north east.

I keep thinking I'll come across a nice cosy pub but it's gardens with everyone dressed as if for an ascent of Everest.

I'd rather not get so cold and actually cook on the boat as the gas hob keeps me from falling into a cryogenic sleep.

This is the 4th week holidaying in the UK in a year and a half of Covid.

It's expensive, it's miserable and it's fekin cold.

Lordy I'm feked off.

but it's pretty well known no inside gatherings of multiple households are permitted at all.
Which everyone I know, family, friends, business colleagues, neighbours have been completely ignoring since Xmas. Once Whittie lied about the 4000 per day deaths in October ( a figure that India still hasnt reached yet), I've been ignoring the rules, as has all my family. We have had two Covid deaths in the extended family and neither would have been prevented by any govt rules, regulations or guidelines whatsoever, apart from the vaccine which obvously came too late for my relatives.

I've still had the vaccine because I'm old and fat, and will welcome the Vaccine Passport to travel overseas so I can buy something somewhere nice, and have a bolt hole to escape to, away from this disgraceful, unethical government that thinks it acceptable to use mass psychological methods to terrify their population into subjugation.
Well this will explain why since Christmas the midlands has continued to have the highest numbers of people positive with covid within the UK……..

He ‘believes’ we have it licked. He’s not going to advise we take a speculative punt, he’s waiting for the fielders to arrange themselves before he sends the pace bowlers in. It’s almost certain we’ll get the next bit of opening on May 17th, that’s going to be when we’ll see any adverse reactions in the important numbers. If there’s no reaction, then there’s a good chance we get back to normal at the next step, if there’s any adverse reactions in the numbers, I would imagine they’ll hold the May 17th level of opening as long as they can / until the numbers stabilise.

Speculative punt? Didn't stop him with masks and closing hospitality despite the lack of evidence.

What you're saying is another 2 weeks then........

We had a fantastic summer. Absolutely beautiful.

Here in London we saw rain today, first for over 2 months! Weather has been lovely with some really warm days and sunshine.

Some just trot out the nonsense about the weather like a stuck record.

Not sure it will. Everyone desperate to go to a pub will have been and sat in a beer garden by then and met their friends and got it out of their system.
All the pubs will be open so not as big a rush to get a seat as you can just go to the next pub if that ones full.
Plenty of people will still be wary as well.
It will get busier with more turnover but as everyone in the pub will still have to be seated its not going to be crazy for a while yet.
Pubs will still have restricted opening times too.
Late licences (past 1am) and nightclubs are not scheduled until june.

That London is not all the U.K. The hot spring we had broke (from memory) about the end of the first week in June and it absolutely poured and poured from then on.

I am currently trying to get my front lawn sorted after being basically ruined as it was so wet. In fact I should just replace it with seaweed.

It was a very very wet summer. No surprise there though.

Thanks for the good rant and the laugh, at your (considerable) expense! laugh
I took my good lady wife out for lunch today. Outside, of course.
Last year it was 25C locally. Today, 16C in the sun.
You'll love being back at home, toasty warm.

Enjoy the rest of your trip. smile
