I went out to a restaurant in Leeds last night - first time since last year - October? Salvos for those that know it.

Jesus I was cold, absolutely bloody freezing. Six degrees. I had two coats on and borrowed a big quilted thing to wrap round my legs.

I don’t think these unseasonably cold temperatures are helping at the moment. This time last year I’d already got a mega sun tan.
It’s mental how cold it gets on an evening! It’s may for gods sake. I had to scrape my car on Saturday morning at work

I blame global warming.

I was sat outside having a meal and lots of beers last night, the establishment had some ( pretty effective) heaters in the canopy of the umbrellas, so I didn’t really feel the cold at all. I don’t tend to feel the cold anyway, as I spend a lot of time riding a bike in sub zero temperatures, so it’s got to be properly cold to bother me really.

It was going well today, then this bunch of aholes turned up, refusing to sit down, and generally being complete toss pots.

I’ll stick around until they get chucked out, I could do with a laugh.
This should be one for the local facebook group thread.

I mean, how petty a person do you have to be, to take a picture of your boring anecdote. Did you pipe up at them? Explain how you're a good citizen and they're below you and others?

C.S. Lewis had people like you sussed:
Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience

How long till you and others who are taking little snide photos are reporting them to the police, or forming little curtain twitch neighbourhood patrols for non-mask-wearers.

The pubs aren't making the rules.

All reasonable people are trying to obey them while they have to.

Self important tts like this deserve to get thrown out.

I agree.

I wholly resent these rules, and pubs have to abide by them, unfortunately, unless they want to risk a large fine and / or closure.

Ergo, I have no time for arrogant s who think it's all about them - per, presumably, those in the photo above.

I’ve stopped going to my local form me though I’ve been a regular there for over 30 years. Having to book a table, fixed tables and an in/out board for the toilets are all too much for me. All too much like being back at school.

Yep. Funny how it's all the little intangibles that make it a PoS for one person and no big deal for the next. I've barely missed an early doors at the pub in 25 years and I'm not missing it at all the way it is right now. The pub for a couple or three pints is a bit of me time. I might stand at the bar and chew the fat with the boys, step aside and make/take some business calls, sit on my own and catch up with the news. Sometimes all of them in one visit. I don't want to have to commit to sitting with a group or on my own or be in any way organised about what's for me supposed to be spontaneous and easy going.

Same for me , I’ve lived in numerous places but always had a local , last week I wander up with the dog to my pub of choice of over a decade to be told “ if you don’t check in and order via the app I’ll have to get the manager to sort it out “
Fair play to the server as she was doing her job by the book but she was clearly relishing being one of the “ recently important “ as I call them .
I can only see problems ahead for the pubs and restaurants once the initial frenzy is over and people realise that glass of wine in the pub costs the same as a bottle in your garden , the 2 pints of beer costs the same as a box of beer from the supermarket . We’ve all gotten used to it and if your on a budget , that a few people may find themselves forced into on the backside of COVID , I can see people returning to their gardens this summer and giving the pub a miss ? I know we already have done , mainly because we’ve just moved to a house with a nice garden but we’ve already had friends suggesting get togethers in gardens as opposed to going to the pub beer garden .

The only differences between the gardens being that (1) the beer in your own garden is cheaper and (2) your own garden is generally nicer and more hygienic than the pub's.

The papers (not just the DM) have been known to surf forums as a cheap way of sourcing stories.

I have said time and time again throughout this whole sorry affair, that those at either end of the spectrum are deeply unhelpful.

This story illustrates exactly that.

At one end, you've got the wkers breaking the rules and putting the pub at risk of complaints, and at the other end of the scale, you've got those holier-than-thou making the complaints and reporting the pub.

Sounds like the government caused it to shut down to me, how dare people stand up.

Actually after reading further it seems the manager played a big part too.

"They think it's OK to not wear a mask inside, don't understand why more than six people on a table is an issue, and some even think they are exempt due to medical issues (yet don't carry an inhaler). Anyone not adhering to our rules is not served and asked to leave"

The public are not naughty little children. Good riddance.

The public where booze is concerned in less than pleasant parts of the UK are probably FAR worse than kids. I feel for the pub, not the mouthbreathers who can't follow fairly simple instruction if they want to drink there. Or if it's all such a drama, just fking wait another two weeks.

Currently on holiday on the Broads with my 18 year old son. It's fekin freezing with a vicious constant wind howling in from the north east.

I keep thinking I'll come across a nice cosy pub but it's gardens with everyone dressed as if for an ascent of Everest.

I'd rather not get so cold and actually cook on the boat as the gas hob keeps me from falling into a cryogenic sleep.

This is the 4th week holidaying in the UK in a year and a half of Covid.

It's expensive, it's miserable and it's fekin cold.

Lordy I'm feked off.
We had a week on the Thames on a cruiser on 12 April. All in all we did have a great time. Lovely weather during the day, not too much traffic so easy navigating through locks and lots of mooring spots even in busy places like Henley. However for 5 nights on the trot the nights got below freezing and it got pretty cold on the boat. Same thing with the pubs. Loads of lovely places to stop, but after 4 or 5pm you just wouldn't want to be sitting there wrapped up in hats, gloves and blankets trying to have an evening meal.

Same on land too - Sunday Lunch was great this weekend, we got some sunshine, but it was still coats and hats, and we saw the odd hot water bottle being passed around. Thank god we didn't book lunch on the Monday instead with the gales. Roll on the 17 May, I'm not going back until I can sit inside!!

A few pubs round here didn't bother opening on Monday because the weather was so awful and are staying closed this week due to the cold and rain - concentrating on getting ready for us to be able to go inside.

As an aside - this is getting silly now. Deaths negligable, people in hospital now low and dropping all the time. As I saw someone say - when did whole pandemic thing go from number of deaths to number of cases? Madness.

Have a look at Chile for what happened when they opened up a bit too early.

Have a look at the UK, when they did it 4 times.
