Decided I wanted a small tablet for travel. Watching or doing stuff on a phone isn't ideal, so the criteria was small tablet with 4G as data is cheap @ for example £10 for 60Gb. Choices were Apple iPad Mini 6 or a Samsung Galaxy Tab Active 3. But the prices of Apple were eyewatering - £929 for a 256Gb variant vs. £200 for brand new Tab Active 3's on FBMP which I could insert a 512Gb Micro SD card into for whopping storage. Last year I'd upgraded The Vikingettes iPhones for Pro Max 15's and didn't want to be stung for the Crapple Tax again.

Dither, dither and I cam across the Tab Active 5 from CEX Grade A, boxed and unused for £440. Collected about 5 bridge cameras from 2013 that had been lying in a drawer unused for 5+ years, an iPad Air 1 and a tough camera and total haul in store credit voucher was £429. As I was in Brumingham over Easter I collected the Tab Active 5 from there for a princely sum of £429 voucher and £11 cash. Best part is that the Tab Active 5 has 5G.

Frivolous because I have a 11 inch tablet for home use.

I'm angling for frivolity t'other way - currently have a Samsung tab S7+ (12") and I'm toying with a Tab 9 Ultra with an extra 2" of screen... In all honesty I have absolutely no need for it but

Quite frivolous. Don’t need an expensive cool box as it is only about 8° today. Partial to orange stuff though.

JLC Atmos clock. Never needs winding.
The closest thing to a perpetual motion machine. Not actually contravening the second law of thermodynamics, but ignoring it.

Nothing frivolous about that - remember it'll also keep things hot!

My 'record' is a hot hold of a 22lb smoked brisket for 18 hours, at a safe temp the entire time. In fact, for the first four hours the meat kept on cooking!

Had my eye on one for a while then sucked in with a limited edition colour. smile

Been buying posters for the walk up to my home office/man cave. Started off with a poster of the set list from the Pendulum gig we went to a couple of weeks ago:

Currently trying to persuade the wife this would be awesome next to it;

Indirectly related - I fking love Pendulum.

It’s, obviously, no closer than anything else. They’re nice clocks, though.

Never needs winding. Runs constantly. Will run as long as there's weather. Anything else you can say that about?

Never needs manual winding. It is constantly winding itself so, to answer your question, any self-winding watch.

They are nowhere near a perpetual motion machine though which has to work without any external energy source. The atmos is using the energy created by temperature and pressure changes

While I agree that it isn't a actually perpetual motion machine, I think perhaps we should regard that as poetic license rather than literal claim, and then we can all move on. smile

You can't leave a 'self-winding' (automatic) watch on the side for months.

Technically you can, it just won't self wind. laugh

Great band. If I’ve taken the train to work, I like to listen to them while walking up to the office from the station. Can’t beat a bit of Tarantula to psych me up for the day. Or DJ Fresh’s ‘Godzilla’.
