I sell a lot on eBay, and regularly block non payers over the past 15 years I must have over 100 numpties on the block list.

Here is the latest message from this morning, I refuse to respond to this sort of abuse. I think he believes eBay can't see his messages, I'll be phoning them tomorrow morning. He clearly has some issues getting mad because I posted an item a day after it sold and he's calling me a liar because it didn't arrive within two day but arrived the third day (shock horror), he paid for 2nd class signed for and never messaged me once. So first he wanted a refund because it didn't arrive after 48 hours, then he said it wasn't the right size (never ask about size before bidding) now he's accusing me of selling a fake bag, who the fk counterfeits a camping bag for a grill.

They are stating its fake so eBay will side with them and he wont have to return it but will get a refund.
Not if I have anything to do with it, first he didn't want it because it didn't arrive within 2 days, then he said it wasn't the same size as ons he saw on the internet then he said it was fake.

I suppose the Camping Gas grill it came with from Decathlon is fake too.

Doesn't help that eBay have closed all their UK call centres and take an age to respond to messages.
Amazing. Get in there early and tell them!

Has anyone seen any pattern to the times these idiots message you? My guess would be more in the evening when they've been at the cider for a while and less before midday when they're still in bed but I'd like to know if there's a trend..

Why didn't you have the right change? And as your fault, why didn't you pay £5 more instead of him dropping it further!

I think many people wouldn't be pleased if a buyer turned up knowing he was going to a private seller without the correct money.
I got the cash out (1x £20 and 1 x £10) and asked if he had £5 change and he answered, "It's OK, you can take it for £20." I didn't request any fruther drop in price but took his kind offer, as anyone would.
Disagree. I’d have given him £30. It’s the decent thing to do.
I personally would have waited for his kind offer then rewarded him for it by giving him 2 crisp fifty pound notes and a pat on the bum. It's the decent thing to do.

The last thing I sold was a piece of IKEA furniture. I added photos, included the dimensions, and explicitly wrote in the description where I'm based.

Someone messaged me asking "How big is it, and where are you based so I know how far to travel?".

Now I only put the town name and not my exact village/location, but it's not a big place.

Honestly.
Assuming that you would even consider replying to that message, is it rude to just reply back with a simple and to the point 'Please re-read the description'

Selling a couple of things recently, a swing being a big item that I couldnt post... listed on Facebook and Gumtree

Not a sausage from Gumtree

Facebook - 12 messages over the course of three days. 9 of those where just the 'Is it still available' default one click question - all I replied to but not a single one replied back?

Three people actually sent a proper messages but two wanted me to drop the price by half as they had to travel to me to collect from 20 or 30 miles away. Not my problem, find something more local.

The last one asked for a small discount to start with, which was fine, turns out she was about 2 miles from me as the crow flies so I delivered to her. All done and dusted within 30 mins of her first message.

The big issue with eBay now as a seller is I can't leave negative feedback against buyers so it's simple for bad eBay buyers to maintain a 100% record without warning sellers.

I sold an item on eBay auction last night, listed for the second time after the first winner changed their mind having won the auction, last night the winning bid is £28, three hours later the winning bidder messages me saying he was bidding for someone else who doesn't want to pay that much and will I take £20! Bearing in mind there were maybe 6 bidders who pushed the price to where it finished.

My reply was to ask them if they know how an auction works and to pay the purchase price, they replied saying they will pay £20 again. At that point I cancelled the sale reported the matter to eBay (who will do nothing) and I have now blocked the user from any future auctions or sales.

Bored of it now so I have relisted at £24.99 buy it now with immediate payment required

Yeah, I think some folks just impulsively hit the 'buy' button when they've nowt to do.

I have started to do my own 'auction' formats to deal with those makes a silly low offer or "your best price bruv" - they get back a reply like this:-

£700 Mr A Z, Surrey
£650 Mr B B, W. London
...
...
£400 <-- YOUR OFFER

I saw a rare item which was well priced that I really needed, it's small and easy to post, problem was it is of course hundreds of miles away. Never mind, we have systems in place for this kind of thing don't we?

Me "Would you consider sending this, I can get a courier to pick up if it's easier for you?"
Him: "Yes"
Me "Can I PP you the money?"
Him "I only take bank transfers"
'Sorry I can only do it with PP' (for obvious reasons!)
Says no and calls me a time waster after only 4 messages rolleyes

Also I've noticed that a lot of people think you can find them (to pick the item up) by postcode only, what's that all about?

'Can I pick it up?'
Yes
What's your address?
RF12 8HG
Er, I might need a bit more than that?
Gives me an address.

I look online and he's given me the address of a barbers shop, I get there and have to ask them and other assorted locals where this guy lives, luckily someone knew him!

Your rolleyes right back at ya.

If he took PP and your courier collected, you say it was never delivered and PP will refund you automatically as he doesn't have signed for proof of deliver. Never take PP unless you are posting it with sig on delivery.

I only ever do auctions for things with values I'm clueless about. If I can easily verify its value comparing it other sales then it'll be BIN.

I can hardly ever be bothered to participate in auctions either. They irritate me. I don't want to dick around competing. I just wanna buy.

He could have taken PP and organised the delivery - like thousands of other daily transactions. That's what PP is for, so one random stranger can do business with another at a distance.
He got really arsey when I insisted on PP and not a bank transfer as If he was someone i'd known for years and was tried and trusted!

I do agree with you as a rule, strangely though I had a situation where I was selling a used out of FIA date racing harness on eBay on BIN, I started it at £40 and dropped it all the way to £25 over time and got no interest at all so I listed it on a 7 day auction with £18 starting price and there was a bidding war which pushed the final value to £33.50 plus post! The winning buyer paid straight away too.

I genuinely can't figure out how peoples minds work on eBay.

It's not all bad. I advertised a single speed mountain bike, got no interest at all (it was probably over-priced). A bloke enquired from Germany, would I sell just the frame and forks and would I ship. I said it's not ideal, and I'd only consider doing it if I had no UK interest, and he would have to buy the whole bike.

To cut a long story short, he waited a week, I'd not sold it, so he arranged the courier, paid for the bike on friends and family upfront for a price I was more than happy with, and sent me photos of the received bike with a few mods he'd made...he was delighted with it.

So there's some decent people out there!

Yep, I'm just looking at it from the other side of the transaction. Perhaps he's been stung in the past by PP's "the item arrived broken" chargeback scam. Perhaps he is a lazy so and so who can't be bothered to go to the Post Office. Perhaps he's shielding so can't get out to post it..

Lots of reasons why he may not want to do PayPal.

Personally, I only do it for items I can posted through a signed for service. Collections are cash or bank transfer.

I feel the same when you see bidding on an item and then the same item has a lower priced BIN price and its still available.
