If anyone can make sense of this advert, they're doing better than me.

Be sure to look through the pictures for full enjoyment.

God knows, but isn't that quite cheap? Obviously it needs gutting but if it is solid and has good mechanical s it seems like a good deal, no?

Why do people expect a discount because they live far away? Surely that is your problem not the sellers?

I know - which is why its always fun to find out where, as invariably its just down the road but they are trying to knock you down further. I mean, in my case its 24 miles away, and he said he can come any time, so doesn't sound like hes that busy...

I'd actually respect them slightly if they just said "its too expensive - im out" but 9 out of 10 times they'll buckle if you hold your ground on the price.

So many over the years.

Moved into new house. Detested the huge marble fireplace and surround so advertised it free, also stating it was extremely heavy so collector would need help to lift.
Small woman turns up alone in a Corsa, somewhat put out that I cant physically help her. Actually launches the surround into the back of the car after dragging it across the drive and expresses surprise when it snaps in half.

Giving away a dining table. Berated for not including chairs.

Selling a pretty rare collectible. Advertised it for £60 but happy to take £50. First message from a guy who says simply "SFS? Going no more than £10!" I reply telling him I've had a lot of interest on a FB group for this type of thing, but to save fees and postage I'll take £50. "I'll be there in half an hour" he says. And he was biggrin

The guy who tried to get me to virtually give away the already bargainous driveway grids I was selling. Told me I'd never sell them. They went within the hour and that evening the idiot had a 'urgently' wanted post for driveway grids on FB.

And by far the best (and I've told this on here before)
Many moons ago other half bought himself an unwanted upgrade Samsung from FB. For some reason I dealt with the bloke via text and I never delete messages because I really CBA,
6 months to the day of purchase the phone stops working. A quick call to EE confirms phone was reported stolen this morning. EE agree that something amiss as they can see husband has been using this handset for 6 months.
I go back to my messages and still have this guys address. His face when he opened the door was priceless. Much stuttering and he shouts to his wife "You've reported the wrong phone stolen!" "No I haven't!" comes the reply. She then comes into the hall, sees us, visibly pales and says "Oh."
We told the guy he needed to call EE immediately, which he did whilst we waited. He apologised for his 'error' and put the phone into husbands name.
Very common scam at the time I found out later, only this guy was a complete idiot to do it from his home address. Needless to say I've never bought a phone in this way since.

Listed a bunch of PC parts on Gumtree over the weekend. All the adverts state the price, that its strictly cash on collection, and my postcode (Bracknell - or about 24 miles from this innit chancer). The convo so far, though im *this close* to just smashing everything up and setting fire to it.
I've actually got more sympathy for the buyer. You just come across as a massive bellend.

Where did they say they expect a discount because they live far away? They ask for a discount based on the fact they'll have to spend more money to collect it.
Erm...How is that different?

Does he? How so? The buyer asked how much and was repeatedly told the price, asked where to collect and was repeatedly told the location. And this after being informed of the price and location in the original advert.

You're not the buyer are you?

As a contrast, sold a telly on eBay. bloke pays, apologises for using Paypal as didnt feel any other option, arrived bang when he said he would and was thrilled with the condition. I said its fine, take it, any problems, bring it back for a full refund.

Got a message saying he is thrilled with it and it works perfectly.
I think ebay is a much better place to buy and sell than Facebook , overall.

I was trying to sell my Royal steering wheels retrimmed wheel for all F series BMW's (aside from F10 5 series).

Was excellent condition and came with some extra carbon trim.

I listed it at 220 expecting to take 200, on Facebook I had literally 12 or 13 people all go "More details etc".

One guy wanted "more pictures" , I said what exactly do you want more photos of, after all, it's a steering wheel, I put one high quality image on the post already.
I took several more from different angles, no response.

Had one guy offer me £190, I said OK for a quick sale, let's go, and he then ghosted me. (WHY???)

Had a couple of people offer me way under (£150) cos "that's what it costs to get done init", to which is true, but then you don't have your standard wheel to sell on later or swap back to and sell this on.

I listed it on Ebay after a few days of head bashing and listed at £210 and it sold within 1 hr of listing, guy paid immediately.

He gives a fairly simple reason as to why he'd like to offer less. What's wrong with that? It's then up to the buyer as to whether they want to proceed. He doesn't 'expect' or argue for anything.

Here's one from a folder I have full of idiots.

I listed the wheels as fitting nearly all BMW's, I specifically mentioned Z3 + Z4, E46, E90 and some F2X models, I included widths and offsets in the description as well, and advised to check yourself.

and also, on the same item :

Perfectly reasonable to ask whether something is still for sale, to be met with 'am I selling something I just listed on gumtree?' (5 hours later).

Perfectly reasonable to ask whether they'd take £120, to be met with another sarcastic response.

As for being told the location, he's got a postcode. When you order a delivery do you just give them a postcode? Or is it vaguely useful to have an address? Christ.

Oh we are moving the goalposts a little .

My question was how is it different that he wants a discount because he has to travel a long way, rather than wanting a discount because it is going to cost him to travel because it is a long way away.

he knew how far away it was when he responded to the advert!

I have no issues with trying to negotiate a discount!

If you were advertising something for sale and i offered you half purely because you lived a long way away from me, I am sure you would tell me to do one!

I have just put a couple of bikes for sale on Gumtree.

I then got a text asking if they were still for sale and could I email my reply.

I then got this email:

Thanks for your response,
I want you to consider this a deal as I am willing to pay your full asking price! I actually want to buy it for a relative who is in need of it, i have checked through your advert and i'm fully satisfied with it.
Unfortunately, i would not be able to come personally to collect but would send my courier agent to collect after you have fully received your money, i work offshore so i don't have time at all, but like i said i am 100% OK with the advert.
However, I will pay you via PayPal once you are ready and send my courier agent after you have received your money as that is the only means of payment available to me at the moment. I would also appreciate it if you could remove the advert asap.
If that's Ok with you please get back to me with a suitable collection time.

I reckon they are going to try and pay me by paypal now and work some sort of a scam.

Closed my never used paypal account now, so that will help.

I once had a buyer on EBay give me negative feedback because he didn’t like the packaging I had used to post his item in!

I had negative feedback on eBay for selling what I think was a clock for a Mk3 Mondeo.

I didn't own the car anymore and couldn't and hadn't tested the item as I didn't need it in the end. Put this clearly in the advert yet the seller left negative feedback as it didn't work and didn't like my response of well how can I test it exactly?

Some people obviously don't bother reading the descriptions of items listed.
