I sell a lot on eBay, and regularly block non payers over the past 15 years I must have over 100 numpties on the block list.

Here is the latest message from this morning, I refuse to respond to this sort of abuse. I think he believes eBay can't see his messages, I'll be phoning them tomorrow morning. He clearly has some issues getting mad because I posted an item a day after it sold and he's calling me a liar because it didn't arrive within two day but arrived the third day (shock horror), he paid for 2nd class signed for and never messaged me once. So first he wanted a refund because it didn't arrive after 48 hours, then he said it wasn't the right size (never ask about size before bidding) now he's accusing me of selling a fake bag, who the fk counterfeits a camping bag for a grill.

They are stating its fake so eBay will side with them and he wont have to return it but will get a refund.

Not if I have anything to do with it, first he didn't want it because it didn't arrive within 2 days, then he said it wasn't the same size as ons he saw on the internet then he said it was fake.

I suppose the Camping Gas grill it came with from Decathlon is fake too.

Doesn't help that eBay have closed all their UK call centres and take an age to respond to messages.

I tend to now just do ebay coc and local pick up only. Tends to filter the scammers.

Having said that, having just sold a strimmer and a brushcutter.

Brushcutter guy went silent.

Strimmer chap had asked if I would post it. I said no. He still bought it, he forgot. He forgot he lived two hour away and didn't drive.

Both cancelled after a week, followed by ebays courtesy 10 day wait to cancel before I could realist.

Once they read his previous messages they won't be siding with him, he's just using fake as an excuse.

You win some you lose some.

I've recently bought three items on FB marketplace an had no bother at all.
The first is an Ikea desk. My pal and I went to collect, having established the seller would
take £5 under the asking price. I didn't have the right change so the guy dropped the price
by another fiver and then lent us a rope after we found the desk woulodn't quite fit in the motor.
We took the rope back later (14m round trip).
Purchase 2...a 4 drawer bedside-type cabinet - for a tenner. The guy wanted a bank transfer
because of Covid 19 but he accepted cash washed in vinegar, in a sealed ziplock. The item
was on the lawn, ready to take.
No. 3 - a camera tripod, complete with carry bag. "Please go to the side door" and "We dropped the price £2 last night."
Nice lady.

And the loss? I've moved in December, storing some of my gear in the garage. Some toerag nicked my
double-decker keyboard stand. I spotted a damaged B-stock 2-tier column stand listed on eBay by a certain
music gear outfit. I tried my level best to offer what it was worth to me (£25 under asking) but they wrote, saying,
'We can't take offers via this email address, you'll have to offer via eBay contact seller'. Oh yeah? That's a
hanging offence on eBay.Eventually, I bought it (£85 less than RRP).

It showed up today. The damaged top cap (broken in two) will repair, as I thought. However, the advertised item should
have two clamps (one per tier), two 18 inch arms and two 13 inch ones. The box contained the colum, the remains of the
top cap, one clamp and two 13 inch arms. That's £63 worth of missing hardware and two unusable arms.

On my calling, the girl said I was to return it - I refused. So, I've emailed, with pictures of the items, copies of their
listing (pics included) and their statement saying, 'The item is fully functional.'

I'm expecting more grief when (if) they reply. Note to self: pay attention to seller ratings and feedback.

What are you expecting to happen?

"Return for refund" is all you're going to get, TBH.

They state, categorically, that what is on sale is what's in the pictures.
The pictures are definitely of the item I received so I expect to
receive the three missing parts as advertised.

Can't say I've had trouble with Gumtree, the last 6 of my cars I've sold on there.

Facebook is lawless however, and always amuses me hehe

Although I did have the reverse experience recently, instead of a buyer trying to haggle me down, I had a seller haggle me down.

I wanted a new fish tank and saw one locally. Arrived and the sellers were the nicest old couple I've ever met. I was planning on the whole exchange taking 60 seconds, but they invited me in, showed me their new tank, told me their fishes names, showed me how to care for real plants, got their camera out and showed me photos of how the tank I was buying used to look when they had it set up. I kept trying to take my leave but I was there for half hour or so. I handed over the £120 and they insisted I pay £90 instead. I relented after a lot of back and forth, and left the £30 half under a vase they had in the hallway on my way out.

It will have used up all of my luck for the foreseeable, so every exchange in future I'll just end up with the same idiots that everyone else here seem to experience hehe

Why didn't you have the right change? And as your fault, why didn't you pay £5 more instead of him dropping it further!

I think many people wouldn't be pleased if a buyer turned up knowing he was going to a private seller without the correct money.

Yep agreed. If you turned up with the wrong change with me you would be paying the extra or going away empty handed.

I got the cash out (1x £20 and 1 x £10) and asked if he had £5 change and he answered, "It's OK, you can take it for £20." I didn't request any fruther drop in price but took his kind offer, as anyone would.

i tried to sell a bike - found facebook was good, it went pretty quick, however gumtree....

Hi you have the bike for sale

Yes

it is an adults bike - depends on the size of the adult

would it fit me

what size are you,

Im 24

you taking the piss....?

no

well how high are you ?

the bike is a teen / young adult

ok what bus route are you on...
or could you deliver ?

i can deliver

Ok thats good

delivery is £25

what, the bike is up for sale for £50 thats half the cost of the bike..

You wanted delivery its not free...

Ill come out and see it when will you be in

in in all day

so i wait, sure enough the chap turns up, get on the bike tries it likes it, I want to buy it, ok i said im selling it.

Ill give you 40 quid for it, im asking £70 for it, you said in the advert it was £50, you offered 40 for it, so obviously you didnt see the price.
its 75 now if you want it or not.

Your a #unt he said. I just laughed. Bike back in the garage and told him to foxtrot oscar.

meanwhile 2nd person turns up, saw it on facebook show him the bike he pulls out £50 gives me the money and bike is away. 1st person is a bit confused. looks at him and says ye had yer chance, if you hadnt ducked about you would have been on your way home on a bike... maybe next time you wont be the #unt will ye...

facebook seems to work better than gumtree these days, lots of buying groups if you can fend off the karens and the chancers lol
I'm confused about this (if it actually happened).

So what if the first person would have bought the bike, you'd have the second person turning up for no reason?

Latest Gumtree item I sold last night was an electric cooker. In the listing, I specifically wrote that it needed a good clean in the main oven. A couple came to look at it. I wired it up temporarily so they could check it out. They looked around it and agreed to take it. Tonight the wife sent me a photo of the top of the oven with baked on dirt, saying they're not happy, and it needs a professional clean. WTF! Less than 24 hours earlier, they were happy to buy it from me!
Another guy tonight asked if a DAB radio I want £5 for could pick up DAB! And in spite of my location being shown on the map next to the items' photos, and the post code link to Google Maps, nine out of ten enquiries ask whereabouts we are, sometimes twice!

Disagree. I’d have given him £30. It’s the decent thing to do.

Sold a working Sony surround system on Facebook 2 weeks ago.
Fully tested and working, bloke turns up and chips me down £5.00 to £20.00

An hour later he messaged me saying it’s faulty.

I offered to buy it back off him for £10.00 if he bought it back to my house, I haven’t heard from him since.

I took an old surround sound amp ans speakers to the tip, as they have a charity electronics collection.

I find that with stuff £20 or so, its just not worth the hassle of selling it. By the time you list it, deal with enquiries, deal with collection and payment, you have wasted a few hours on it.

Better to give to charity.
