Did you take it back?

I have just put a couple of bikes for sale on Gumtree.

I then got a text asking if they were still for sale and could I email my reply.

I then got this email:

Thanks for your response,
I want you to consider this a deal as I am willing to pay your full asking price! I actually want to buy it for a relative who is in need of it, i have checked through your advert and i'm fully satisfied with it.
Unfortunately, i would not be able to come personally to collect but would send my courier agent to collect after you have fully received your money, i work offshore so i don't have time at all, but like i said i am 100% OK with the advert.
However, I will pay you via PayPal once you are ready and send my courier agent after you have received your money as that is the only means of payment available to me at the moment. I would also appreciate it if you could remove the advert asap.
If that's Ok with you please get back to me with a suitable collection time.

I reckon they are going to try and pay me by paypal now and work some sort of a scam.

Closed my never used paypal account now, so that will help.

Paypal scam and wording that hasnt changed much in 15 years.
They pay via paypal, collect in person then pull back the paypal payment a few days later - you are left without said bike/car/boat, no money and no contact details to chase as its all a fake account.

usually it is just a fake paypal email to say you have received payment.

I think my latest eBay experience is worthy of a thread revival...

I sold a desktop PC a couple of weeks ago and received a message from the buyer the following day:

"got computer yesterday the cd disc drive wouldnt open finally figuerd out to press the little plastic on the front. okay now . the problem is the game cds wont fit .the draw is to small . i have tried for hours with different game discs and non fit please you need to sort this out as its no good like this i bought this to play my old games on"

I couldn't quite visualise what they were talking about, so I asked them to send me a photo of the CD tray...

Noticed the problem yet? (the computer is upside-down and they're trying to insert the CD into the bottom of the tray if not wink)

I told her to turn the computer the correct way up and try again.

"okay will try"

I heard nothing else for a week and assumed that would be the end of it, until I received this tonight:

"hi i bought your computer i have been trying a week to load windows games i have tried about 20 games it wont load any if this is a computer it should load the games"

confused

hehe Good luck with that

If they can't figure the correct orientation of the PC, how are they going to figure out the compatibility issues of running 2004 era games.

I stopped selling years ago, would rather give stuff away and lose money than sell to the general public.

The two that come to mind back around 2009 I think were

Selling an iPhone, think it was the 3G model. Put it on ebay for £150 (At the time they were going for £200) in VGC. I had it from new for a year. Chap purchased it, ship to italy. OK they paid for postage no problem. It arrived, money in paypal account. A week later, got a challenge against it saying the camera was faulty and that it had been opened and repaired. Bear in mind I had this from new direct from the Apple store. He then claimed that an "apple expert" had inspected the phone and determined that the camera had been replaced with a 3rd party part, therefore he was putting in a claim for £75 as a settlement.

I went through the process with ebay, and asked for the "apple experts" credentials or certifications, long story short paypal agreed with him so I had to take the £75 hit. All my phones go to Mazuma / Envirophone now.

Other was was a Sony DV camera back in 2008, Purchased it in 2007 for £220 and it was used once and sat gathering dust in the box. Decided to sell it and wanted rid, plus DV cameras were out of fashion with phones taking over so put it online for £100, listing camera, battery and 2 DV tapes. Seller emails me asking if still available, I say it is. Next thing I know I get a load of capital letter abuse calling me a fraud, telling me it is fake and that he should smash my face in for selling fake goods!! Literally no communication before that or anything else. Just some psychopath. In the end I sold it to some guy who came all the way from London to Devon on the train to collect it. Confusing but he paid in cash...!

Will never sell online again. Credit to you all that can tolerate this stuff, I can't.
