The main advantage of speedy boarding is that you can find somewhere for your bag in the overhead before some arse fills them with loads of extra bags, coats, Duty Free, kids yous etc etc

I have never had a problem. But my bag will fit under the seat in front. I manage this by packing more stuff in my hold baggage.

classicaholic comment is probably geared to people who do not take hold baggage, carry on only.

Sure, fair point. Isn't there a size recommendation for locker luggage on most flights? I suppose typically a number try to push these limits though...

OK, thought I must be missing something. My hand luggage is usually just a small rucksack that I keep handy on the floor.
Yes, much less bother, just kick it under the seat in front, one
eagle eyed crew member spotted this before take off one time and
put it in the overhead thingy, I was going to give her a withering stare
but she looked the spit of Betty Boo so I was captivated by love.
You're allowed to store small bags under the seat in front, are you not? I've never had any bother.

Mine won't because I always pay for an over wing exit seat, to ensure the seat pitch is longer than my femur, which means my hand luggage has to go in the overhead locker as it's not allowed on the floor for takeoff and landing..

I'm aware of that, i do the same. Bit of a pain and on many flights those over the wing extra leg room seats get served food last. Often on the return trip the best snacks have run out before the trolley reaches the middle legroom seats. Happened a few times on Easyjet (Jet2?) flights to me. Extra space is lovely.

I haven't flown since before 9/11 and my passport expired last year and was only renewed in 2013 for a track day at Spa-Francorchamps which was via the Eurotunnel.

Flying sounds fking awful now, and wasn't that great pre-9/11 either.

It's pretty unpleasant. I've travelled business for mid haul flights but you still get all the airside nonsense. Still I love my sun and foreign adventure so I have no choice but to fly.

Whitebait for me ( can't fault bacon & egg, either)

I've lucked into British Airways Silver status due to their double tier points offer and that has transformed my last couple of trips.

Being able to pick your seat at booking means you can select the exit or bulkhead row when travelling economy so you get plenty of leg room without having to pay through the nose for premium or business.

Then you get lounge access for some peace and quiet before the flight, plus easy grazing on snacks and drinks.

Wander over to the gate when boarding starts and sneak past the queues with your separate boarding line.

Almost makes it enjoyable. If they could just stop half the flight bringing on the maximum amount of hand baggage so there's no faffing about with lockers it would be perfect.

Oddly enough I was on a BA/Finnair flight recently that has the perfect solution to that.

The flight was full so they announced that if you had two peices of hand luggage the larger peice would be checked at the gate. No issues getting my reasonably sizes 30L backpack into the locker.

I'd been allocated seat 12A, which on an all economy class A320 is the best seat in the house.

Easyjet only allow the first however many wheelie cases on than then tell people they'll have to go in the hold, which is a big improvement on BA, where I've been on a plane that missed it's slot as they were still trying to sort out getting bags that wouldn't fit in to the hold.

I flew Finnair the other week and love that you get free blueberry juice biggrin

Flying cattle class has always been crap. It's no worse than it used to be. In fact its better in many ways now. You save money and time not having hold luggage, and you can fly to most of Europe for less than it cost to park at the airport.

Its a little rucksack I'm referring to. It sits under my legs/behind my feet most of the flight.

Im six foot tall and had no problems putting a 30L rucksack under the seat on a trip to Lisbon, Portugal. Its about 2 & 1/2 hours, just right to watch the film The Martian on my phone.
