This amazing song I've written and want to release in order to acquire fame and financial security for my family for generations...
...how do I make sure I haven't accidentally plagiarised Elgar or Pussycat Dolls or Don Henley before releasing it?
Could you play it to Shazam?...how do I make sure I haven't accidentally plagiarised Elgar or Pussycat Dolls or Don Henley before releasing it?

You probably don't. As a songwriter friend of mine said, 'There are only eight notes, so it's no wonder there are claims of copying'. George Harrison was found to be guilty of 'unconscious plagiarism' with My Sweet Lord' / He's So Fine....how do I make sure I haven't accidentally plagiarised Elgar or Pussycat Dolls or Don Henley before releasing it?
As the saying goes 'Where there's a hit, there is a writ'.

A question to you personally. Did you ever start a thread on PH which received no responses? If so what was it about?
I have seen such a thread and it's a very rare thing in the high traffic areas.
I started a thread once about an upcoming film adaptation (I think it was Battle Angel Alita) where the first 3 posts were from me over a period of a few months, giving updates on production, then an ex-mod posted a reply asked why I was bothering, and then as the film got nearer to release and became more mainstream, the thread took off. I have seen such a thread and it's a very rare thing in the high traffic areas.

I started a thread once about an upcoming film adaptation (I think it was Battle Angel Alita) where the first 3 posts were from me over a non-trivial period of time, giving updates on production, then an ex-mod posted a reply asked why I was bothering as clearly nobody was interested, and then as the film got nearer to release and became more mainstream, the thread took off. I have seen such a thread and it's a very rare thing in the high traffic areas.

You can't (unless it's blindingly obvious). I forget the correct legal phrase but the only way is to test it by releasing it. So if Don Henley comes calling, you would need to demonstrate that you didn't do it deliberately. But it's a legal minefield as with anything creative, there is no such thing as an original idea rather something that has been inspired by something else - consciously or subconsciously....how do I make sure I haven't accidentally plagiarised Elgar or Pussycat Dolls or Don Henley before releasing it?
Where claims have been successful, it has been proven that there was deliberate intent through the timing, chord structure and so on - and that the originator has suffered financially and / or reputationally. Easy to prove with sampling, less so with original score.

Yep. Literally no one was interested in a fascinating series of Advanced Aircraft Manoeuvering Lectures on YouTube. Who knew? I have seen such a thread and it's a very rare thing in the high traffic areas.

So what you're saying is I can bump start my Trabant in reverse and the engine will run backwards?
Almost certain that an of the 2 stroke motorbikes would, but my only reservation is whether the timing of the spark woukd be right. It's an air start system as well so it's limited to how many times they can stop and re-start.
And the tiny glow engines on model planes can run in reverse too (the 2 strokes anyway)
This is not something "I've always wanted to know the answer to". I say that because someone got a scolding from another poster for posing a question that, by its nature, clearly wasn't an old one.
The question is, was there a vacuum cleaner that was advertised, either in print or on TV, showing it stuck to a wall with its own suction?

I'm sure there was an episode of brainiac where they used a hoover to support someone's weight by attaching it to a large box (large area x relatively low vacuum = surprising amount of force). The question is, was there a vacuum cleaner that was advertised, either in print or on TV, showing it stuck to a wall with its own suction?
It's quite amazing really, like a hovercraft in reverse!

Yes, it was in the business section either last week or the week before and was about if the buyer or seller needs to make the commercial invoice for a return for credit back to the EU when the thing was bought before Brexit (and therefore came in without one).I have seen such a thread and it's a very rare thing in the high traffic areas.

If anyone here knows the answer I would be happy to hear from them.

Doner Kebab "elephant legs". How on earth can they be heated up, cooled down, then re-heated in perpetuity without serious food poisoning afoot?
Pure guess..... either a)The heat only cooks to a certain depth. and at the end of each day, the cooked section is cut away to reveal the raw section. The application of heat deals with any pathogen that may have seeped through overnight.
b) The heat kills anything that has developed on it overnight
c) It's riddled but is dealt with the alcohol soup it lands into when eaten.

Elephant leg is poisoning the majority of people who eat it, but they just write it off as a hang-over.
(ETA, I bloody love the stuff, and I get terrible hangovers. Suddenly it all makes sense!)
