Which is one of many names that's a variant of Margaret. Along with Margarita, Meg, Rita, Peggy and Daisy. (Peggy comes via Meggy, Marguerite is the French for Daisy).

Up here, north of the wall, it often gets shortened to Mags...and in my wife's care, by me, to "bloody psycho witch from hell". smile
(But usually very quietly!)

Hamstery type things suck water from a straw-like nozzle in their little cages, don't they? That must need some level of suction?

Nope, they don't suck, there is a ball at the end stopping the flow of water, the hamster/gerbil/rabbit etc push the ball up with their tongue, thus creating a brief flow of water that they can then drink.

If the international language of air flight is English, and the international language of seafaring is English, why is the international language of space travel Russian?

I don't like to see you two bicker like this. Especially as I feel I brought you together recently when he called me a tt and you weren't surprised I'd been called a tt before.

However, in this case I don't see what he's done wrong.

I never start this st! I ask a question, and she kicks off. Every fking time.

It was a genuine queston. I don't know what her problem is, but she is seriously getting on my tits.

Funnily enough I changed my mind and deleted my post not long after I made it, but sadly not in time. frown

Apologies.

The answer to your question is surely because the Russians contributed as much to spaceflight as the Americas did. More so, if you include the fact that Soyuz has outlived the Shuttle.

Oh my goodness. I didn't really say that did I? I did recently post when drunk (bad thing to do) and perhaps it was then. frown

(I have no such excuse tonight. Totally sober)

And that's fair enough, but I find it hard to believe that the English speaking world would acquiesce to the Russians over language. One could argue that the pioneers of seafaring weren't English speakers, but to argue is the last thijg I want to do in replying to one of your posts.

Perhaps you are right.

Perhaps the question isn't as specious as I initially thought then. Although you have to admit that yesterday's one about shortening the name "Stephen" wasn't one of your best. smile

I know you wear the 'tt' thing as a badge of honour, but much water has passed, and many names been bandied since then. By all means, continue to wear the hat if you wish, but I'm not one to bear grudges.

I remember people who upset me, but that's not the same thing at all. smile

It arose because I have a colleague called Stephen. He's very particular about the 'PH', because he says Steven with a 'V' is "common".

But he signs his emails 'Steve'.
