Good advice from Dicky there. My advice is get the death certificate ASAP. It's important Bobber's for many things.
And a rake of official copies. Half a dozen or so. Easier to get them at source. Lots of organisations won't accept photocopies.

Don't just get one Death Certificate, get a few Official Certified Copies at the same time.
Depending on the complexity of your M-i-L's affairs, each concern will require a copy: Banks, Building Societies, Insurance Companies, Finance Companies, Local Authorities, Solicitors dealing with Probate, Utilities? etc.

When my Mum passed, I asked for 7 copies.
It is a lot more expensive to obtain them later on.

There is a Gov Guidance booklet available ( or info online I think )
advising "What to do in the event of somebody's death."
I found it very helpful.

Thanks for the advice chaps, we thought we could do it ourselves but we're starting to realise that everything is seriously stacked against us, it's not a big estate and only two beneficiaries and a couple of bequests, but it's shaken us just how quickly M&S shut the account down without explaining anything to us.

And try not to take stuff like that personally. The banks have a responsibility to safeguard your MiL's money. MiL is gone, the account is closed. If they didn't some families would be in there emptying the account. So the banks act swiftly and no one is under suspicion. It's not the beneficiaries' money until probate is granted. Until then it's held in trust in the solicitor's client account. Some things the lawyer can pay from the account on behalf of the estate.

When my dad died my mum did it all herself. She found it a real uphill struggle. When it was all done she took it to a solicitor to rubber stamp and the solicitor did it all again.

It's been a rugby fest today at last. I managed to walk little sod a couple of times, estimate a job and a nice relaxing afternoon with Madam M.
Just a pint of 1664 here at home tonight followed by a bottle of white Bordeaux wine with a wonderfull home made Pizza! A la Madam M.
I'm all out of decent digestives at the mo so it's a choice of Paddy wisk or Lemoncello!
I do have some bizzare home made hooch! Gifts from various French folks etc.

Guid morning all bounce

By, it's a lovely morning here. It seems most of our clocks have reset themselves during the wee small hours, I'll check them all properly after brekkie.

I notice the sundial's pointing in roughly the right direction now, it does appear to be lying on its side though?

Hellfire. Bloody thing must weigh well over a ton, we'll need to have a look at that.

Normally I would ask Battert to simply convert the trebuchet into a crane but as he may be responsible for the sundial lying on its side in the first place I may meet some resistance.

Morning everybody! wavey

I'm stiil alive I think. Or I might be dreaming that I'm still alive. scratchchin

I have no symptoms. But what I do have is a particular set of skills acquired over a long career I have got a bit of a chesty cough, but I've had that since February 2019.
And I do have a dry patch of skin on my left elbow where it's been chafing against the wood.

Hang on a minute, what's all this wood? yikes
Let me out!
It's not my time.
Turn the clocks back!
I want to see Scrump's new hat.
Get me out of this box! boxedin

Thanks Bomma, that was just what I needed. A jolly excellent breakfast!

Sundial?

To get to the sundial, we must first get past Scrump.

He has a new hat.
And a strange demand:
