More clueless than the clueless government? Lol!!

0.05% of people under 70 who catch covid die. Why the histeria surrounding it?
How do you work that out?

If our population is c65m then 0.05% is 32,500 deaths. Yet last time I checked we were already approaching 50,000 deaths.

As someone from an information security background, I just can't believe the data generated is used exclusively for COVID and that the tracking will stop at COVID.
What do you think it’s being used for?

The U.K. government, with the help of the BBC, is now suggesting the public to literally go f*ck themselves.

I dont actually know.

Ive ceased to even try and understand all the "rules". Just do what i need to do, be sensible, and if an obstacle comes up, deal with it at the time.
This is the correct answer from my perspective. I have no idea what 'the rules' are, but then again I don't seek them out. They're complicated and illogical beyond reason. I don't purposely try and break them for the sake of it, but probably break loads every day. WGAF, anyway.

Let's face it, most of the population are following the rules, myself included.

Yes, some is a slight inconvenience but hopefully it won't be for long!

The OP said 0.05% of the population under 70. Do your sums again with the correct figures.

Gave up months ago trying to understand the stupid rules that change every week

Not been in a shop since the face masks came in just can't be bothered with all the hassle or dealing with some Hitler in a shop because I dared go the wrong way or something

I popped into the local shop today for some bits and when I was halfway shopping, I realised that I had forgotten my Mask. One of the people on the tills said that he technically should not be serving me and that next time I should be wearing it. I half felt like making a scene, but then thought that the hassle was just not worth it.

This begs the question though, are shops legally allowed to refuse you service if you forget your Mask?

I think it's the job of the scientists to give the govt advice on the best way forward, but it's the job of the govt to decide what we actually do. Of course the science says a full lockdown is the best way forward. Of course it is, that's bloody obvious. If you want the best way to stop old people slipping over in the ice and snow and getting seriously hurt or dying, it would be to ban old people from going out at winter. But we don't do that. If an old person is scared of slipping over, then they shouldn't go out. If they want to take the risk, they do.

The science would tell you that to reduce road deaths, ban motorcycles, ban cars over 1000cc, max speed 30 mph anywhere, minimum driving age 30, max age 80, and no pleasure use in cars, just business, school run and food shopping. That would get road deaths right down. But is that how we want to live?

I think it's right that the govt advise and recommend. But my mates dad was 95 recently. If he wants a party at home with all his family, he understands the risks but wants to do it anyway, who are the govt to stop him? How many more birthdays has he got?

It's outrageous that we've ridden roughshod over personal freedoms. Everyone should be free to assess the risks they face and make their own call.

Yes., wear a mask when going into a shop, supermarket or the barber's to get my No1 haircut, and because I'm a bit of a "loner", social distancing is easy...!

It's also important to remember that this is now with us for life. The old ways are a thing of the past.

My understanding is:

You don't have to wear a mask if you consider yourself exempt. The Law provides a non-exhaustive list of exemptions.

If you're not wearing a mask, shops etc. can't ask you 'what's wrong with you?' as that would be discrimination under the Equality Act.

Shops etc. therefore can't enforce 'the rules' and shouldn't be doing so - that is the job of the Police, who I believe can ask for details.

(I may be totally wrong in my understanding, of course...)

Of course, these places are private spaces and they are, I assume, allowed to put in place whatever 'rules' they like - at the risk of being discriminatory. I presume that is the case at the pub I went in where the Manager person barked at me that I 'must wear a mask', even though the law only states 'face covering'.

Are they?

If this ends up being just an alternative to seasonal flu, which it very likely will be, we've not made society-changing alterations to the way we live for that so why should we for SARS-CoV-2?

I can't find it now but BBC reported a story where the data was used for other purposes.

It's just not worth it, shopping is delivered via online my butchers has been doing a local delivery service for years, I can pay at the pump for gas, local Chinese/pizza place delivers, we have a milkman & I can pay my mechanic or tyre place via bank transfer

If I can't get anything via them means then I just go without

Slightly o/t but businesses need to adapt, if they haven't already, otherwise they have no future. Contactless, deliveries, apps, better websites etc. Things have been moving this way for years and Covid has just accelerated things drastically.

Back on topic, me, my household and most people I know are following rules, even if it causes inconvenience. E.g. yesterday I walked 10 mins to a shop and once at the door realised I'd forgotten my mask so I walked back, got it, then walked back to the shop.

It's really no hardship to follow whatever rules are currently in force. It has made no significant difference to my life.

Agreed, we have adapted and been tweaking here and there so that we can continue with our business and haven't noticed any downturn really.

Yes although having 2 small children we don’t tend to go clubbing or drinking in pubs so it’s no big change even living in a T3 area. We were in Liverpool today and it was very quiet people out exercising but noticeably quieter.
