Not at all. Like many things, exploited for the opportunity at the expense of those with a genuine need.

How would somebody "exploit" Mental Health services? confused

What benefit does somebody gain from registering and then receiving counselling or medication (or whatever treatment people with mental Health issues receive" when they didn't need to?

Every other scrote has jumped on the bandwagon. They are all suffering from 'stress and anxiety' and their kids all have ADHD. The easiest thing to fake and keep them on benefits.

It massively clouds the water for those that have genuine need.

Ah ok. So they're falsely claiming benefits by pretending to have MH issues. For some reason I thought it was being suggested that people were exploiting MH services.

For the fraudulent classes, 'Mental Heath Issues' is the new 'Bad Back' easy to fake and next to impossible to disprove. rolleyes and I imagine it does waste a whole load of resources that genuine cases could be using.
Both horrible issues to deal with if you are genuine, tainted by the ease of faking it.

At least nobody's suggesting that 'mental health' isn't 'a thing' as the original post appeared to say in the absence of explanation.

If your beef is with benefit fraud then your beef is with benefit fraud not mental health. As far as benefit fraudsters are concerned, presumably if it wasn't 'mental health' they were claiming it's presumably be some other discreet ailment as it was before the concept of 'mental health' gained the credence which it rightfully has.

I don't like the 'woke' term.

Myself, parents & girlfriend we talking about new words, terms etc we don't like & I was trying to describe woke without actually saying it. My description came out as follows -

"The word I don't like is a 4 letter word beginning with W. I did it this morning & have done it every other morning"

After a brief delay I worked out why I was getting some funny looks!

Correct. It is an easy exploitation as someone suggested, the new bad back brigade. Then the ADHD gang you can spot a mile off, usually a kid with a terrible hair cut whose name ends in "-ayden" with a consonant of your choice at the beginning.

You then get someone who was called a name on Facebook who then claims they have "suffered" PTSD.

As I say, build it and they will come. An excuse for sciving, benefits, soft treatment, basically an excuse to avoid any and all responsibility. This then impacts those who do have genuine needs.

On the mental health thing, I think it is more that it has become a default thing. If you're a bit down/depressed/having a bad day/things aren't working out for you/you've been dumped/divorced, etc then people now say that they are struggling with their mental health.

To me mental health refers to much more serious mental issues, not feeling slightly depressed one day/week.

My niece is in her mid teens and you would not believe the number of her friends who have 'mental health' issues. It's almost an excuse. 'I'm a stroppy teenage cow' is now 'I'm struggling with my mental health'. Etc.

There does seem to be a conflation between short term depression after a death in the family and longer term clinical depression and also a natural and healthy anxiety and a debilitating illness (the self diagnosis).
