I think you are overestimating the intelligence and humour of the general public. Yes some of them start as a joke but I don't think this one did. People are convinced that 'power structures' are all linked and have been lying to us about everything for hundreds of years! This is not an internet thing... sadly.

Maybe, maybe not. Just don't assume people are being serious is all I'm saying. Often the aim is to convince and reel in people who believe you are serious.

An insurrection by definition is a revolt against authority, not that it means it has the aims of seizing control.

From what I read, it was more a point of them attempting to stop the transfer of power (this was a real goal i.e. to disrupt the process of law).

What is bonkers is that its clear as day Trump had a role in inciting it, yet we have to go through the US legal nightmare of proving it, which if you have enough money to defend it, never will.

At it's core was an attempt to throw out the actual results and replace them with their own fake set - this is what Pence chose not to do and resulted in death threats etc. See wiki of the event HERE

It was very much about a losing President attempting to subvert the handover of power, and required the insurrection attempt so that Pence would either be scared into declaring the fake electors (it's no coincidence that the insurrectionists wanted to 'hang' Pence), or delay the decision so that trump could take the decision to his tame SCOTUS.

We can argue the subtleties of whether it meets the strict definition of insurrection, but here is a link LINK to a list of the over 1000 people charged with various criminal and violent acts that day.

It was a definite attempt to seize control amd overturn the legitimate US Presidential election. Jan 6th was the violent part of it, there were attempts to provide fake electors, destroy votes that weren’t going for Trump. He incited and controlled a lot of it “stand back and stand by” allowing weapons into the park where he started the March “fight like hell” and so on.

The fact he’s still managing to defer his criminal trial for this and other actions should be a cause of National shame for the US.

I think any sane and objective thinking person knows that Trump carefully worded everything so that he could post event claim it meant something else - but he knew what his words would do, especially with the core Trump supporter base which is quite frankly a bunch of utter lunatics.
