Well the eclipse today across the USA has caused all sorts of conspiracy theories, even Alex Jones thinks its a nefarious plot by scientists to harvest and use negative energy against people. Of course there are the usual stack of 'end of days' cults saying it will happen today. Not sure what happens to them when it doesn't.
some people claimed that the eclipse was due to climate change There was also a (potential) NYC politicians who blamed the earthquake on climate change as well.
Quite bizarre.
There is a spectrum. But it isn't Conspiracy Theorists at one end and Smart people at the other. It is Conspiracy Theorists at one end and Idiots at the other. It is not a case of 'the further you are away from the Conspiracy Theorists the smarter you are'.
The smart people are somewhere in the middle - able to be sceptical where appropriate but know something stupid when they see it.

insanity isn't an opinion, and neither is stupidity. The smart people are somewhere in the middle - able to be sceptical where appropriate but know something stupid when they see it.

It’s definitely a spectrum but not linked to intelligence, just levels of detachment from reality and susceptibility to certain influences or ideology. The smart people are somewhere in the middle - able to be sceptical where appropriate but know something stupid when they see it.
You can have quite intelligent conspiracy theorists and also ones that are perhaps less so.
The intelligent ones likely won’t have high EQ and tend to lack an ability to recognise their biases and are therefore susceptible to un analytical thinking. They often also suffer from feelings of isolation and anxiety and their behaviour and conspiratorial thinking is reinforcing negative thought cycles and behaviours like looking for more evidence they’re right or only reading fringe documents or getting their facts from obviously un reliable sources.
We see this on PHs often where there might be an intelligent but dogmatic ideologue leader who then influences the less intelligent fellow conspiracy theorist followers. They likely all elicit similar personality characteristics though but have hugely different levels of intelligence.

We should really ban heading the ball(*) from the modern game (*) Although, IIRC Le Tissier wasn't a great header of the ball, which kindof ruins the joke...

Probably; I'll nip over and have a look. Will I be sorry I asked?
"Scan as you shop' is where the future is. So easy. I never scan at the till anymore".
followed by
"You should try "Click and Collect" it's even better"'
Then rapidly descended into accusations of customers sneaking out without paying, shoplifting with people "accidentally" putting 'carrots' rather than 'caviar' when desribing the goods they were weighing, over-zealous security guards, and Supermarkets being involved in Modern slavery.
Or something like that I think.- I got bored.
We all know that the CTists love to have someone to demonise, and just lately, it seems to be Oprah Winfrey.
She’s been the subject of a witch hunt for a while now, but things seem to be hotting up recently.
On a slightly different note, a couple of days ago, I saw a CTist claim how proud he was of going down rabbit holes. It takes all sorts I suppose.
Anyway, back to Oprah, and surprise surprise, memes.

I got that reply after I suggested that social media is full of rabbit holes, dangerous ones, and that it is far worse than MSM imo for falsehoods and misinformation.
I hope you sent them a link to the covid thread on PH so they could frolic with the like-minded idiots we have here.AW111 said:

So I presume this person is just an average joe on social media, with no secret access to top secret government records globally. He, and only a handful of select other people have somehow gotten all this evidence that no one else has managed. Or he just made it all up in his paranoid mind...
