Any news on the 330i, g3org3y?
Hi glenrobbo, yes the 330i is sorted, thankfully. Fire was just like this:
Thread here in the BMW section. Had to do some research to ID the part and a solution. Apparently there's a recall on this bit by BMW USA (no such recall by BMW UK!)

Glad it's not too serious, g3org3y. I had visions of a burnt-out wreck ( not because of all those 03:30 am drives out with the little 'un, I know you can handle those. ) Fire was just like this:

How did you notice the fire? Was it the smell, or did you see smoke?
Or was there a malfunction that caused you to look under the bonnet?
Shameful neglect on the part of BMW UK to ignore such a potentially
hazardous defect. They shouldn't be allowed to get away with it.
Sue their asses off!
Or contact the Consumers Association (Which magazine)
Or a consumer rights television programme.
I imagine they would be keen to mount a crusade on behalf of a seriously inconvenienced NHS key worker General Practioner Covid Vaccinator being immobilised.

I was sitting in the car following a test drive after I removed the fuse for the Comfort Access (keyless entry/start) as I wanted to read the error codes again. I switched the car on (position 2) so the fan was on. I could smell burning which was unusual (with old cars, I'm familiar with the smell of burning oil) and looked up to see smoke pouring out from under the bonnet. Turned everything off, jumped out and opened the bonnet to see flames like in the YouTube video above. Cue me trying to blow out the flames like a cartoon character. Fortunately I was successful! Certainly an interesting experience. How did you notice the fire? Was it the smell, or did you see smoke?

The part is now disconnected (non essential unless it's genuinely freezing) so hopefully no further issues. It's odd that BMW USA have done a recall on this part and BMW UK haven't.
