Paul was brought up in Social Housing.

I quote

20 Forthlin Road

Mendips was under a mile from 20 Forthlin Road, but the two houses sat in different social worlds. Mendips had a grand name whereas Forthlin Road was simple but well-made social housing.

Paul’s mother Mary was houseproud, right down to the Sanderson designer wallpaper which she hung in the parlour, carefully pieced together from inexpensive roll ends.

However, family life at 20 Forthlin Road was also marked by loss. Mary died from breast cancer on 31 October 1956. Paul was 14 years old and his younger brother, Mike, only 12.

With their father Jim now trying to work full-time and raise two sons, the family started to struggle. Aunts and uncles stepped in to support and helped the family with meals and chores during their weekly visits.
reading the above it's council - but not council, this thread is for the latter, not the former. Not realising that? Council hehe

It’s old school council (40’s 50’s) which is very different to modern council. Old school were house proud working people with integrity and standards.

My family lived on a council estate in the late 60's and it was the exception that someone didn't work and everyone took great pride in their homes. By the time we left nearly 20 years later it was a completely different place and much more "council".

That reminds me of a bloke I worked with in Mississippi who was named Randy Gesch. With his surname being pronounced ‘Gash’.
I know a Randy Bender (in the USA)
I work for an american firm and the email list can be very amusing. We have many Randys:

Surnames: Walker, Baller, Pfister, Bushe...
I used to work with a Dragon Wang.

Where on earth did you see staggeringly beautiful and come up with Emma Butt's. Dear God, I wish I didn't Google that, probably really fun for a couple of hours but rough as you like. Also very council looking.

"Staggeringly beautiful", maybe staggering back from the pub and she's getting the kebabs in?

These probably have already been mentioned in the previous 2500 pages. But in my opinion the 3 biggest “council” traits are….

- Not being able to speak English properly, when the chav talks like a ghetto gangster rather than as a British person. It doesn’t make them sound tough or respectable, they just come across as an idiot. It makes my skin crawl to listen to them.

- Taking no pride in their appearance. Wearing a scruffy pink track suit with orange face paint.

- Having no aspiration. None what so ever. Some chavs seem content in always being a chav living in a st hole. And have some inverse snobbery against those who do well. While I’m politically left leaning and believe they should be some opportunity for those at the bottom… are they taking it? Interestingly the best social mobility for me was joining the Armed Forces and wanting to make a successful career out of it, it got me out of my sthole of a town, gained qualifications and engineering experience.

A reminder of the international spread of council. Saw this yesterday in Cyprus.

Agreed. Elevated me from chav scum to (almost) royalty. Ish.

The burger was consumed with a bottle of cider too, albeit brewed by the local off licence using apples from their orchard. The Little Tipple for any locals.
