It could be historical, there is a lot of Geordie-diaspora in certain parts of Oz.
It’s very common to keep a surname alive by giving it as first name in the NE.
Robson Green
Jerome Flynn
I sailed with a Robson Walker (hard to say it with putting on a Geordie accent!) and an Armstrong Hale.
Really? I have lived in the NE (not Newcastle though) all my life and have never heard of this.

I’ve lived all over the NE and that’s complete rubbish.

3 Council names, all from parents not married yet. Having a Child before marriage = Council.

My youngest son's middle name is John. Same as me, my father, and his father before him,and his father before him too.
No imagination in names? Council.
My wife’s family adopted a surname as a middle name for the boys a couple of generations ago. Our son is relieved to have avoided Shillington. No imagination in names? Council.

You lost me at Jenner - epic?
Best all-round athlete in the world in 1976 mean nothing to you?
Absolutely belongs on the list for me.
That's what I had in mind, but also must have taken balls to transition in such a public way. Brave gal!

Tight suit = council..
For your answer to is Alexei Sayle "Council", this book will answer the question.
He's from Bootle, so the answer is: he definitely started out as council.

The road running through one of our local beauty spots is usually clogged up every weekend with parked vans and cars owned by cyclists travelling over to have a ride out in groups.
They aren’t a friendly or ‘clubby’ lot either as you can be cycling up towards them, and they will look you in the eye and still open their vehicle door on you and any other cyclist following you.
