A bit council (Vol 5)
Discussion
Here in sunny Clevedon we used to have the Hales Cakes factory. Some days everywhere smelt of cake which was lovely, not so nice when they burnt the cakes though.
How many of us can remember when going on holiday down West, The Bridgwater stink when traveling on the M5 ? That was the old cellophane factory, thankfully long gone now.

I used to work very close to these guys:

My god some days the smells coming from that factory were mouthwatering.

You’re all amateurs
1. Father worked at Cadburys for 40 years…..never ate chocolate!
2. Mother worked at Cadburys for 30 years……hated chocolate!
3. We all lived no more than a mile from Cadburys……chocolate smell heavenly when wind blowing in our direction
4. I worked there during school holidays between sixth forms……I love chocolate!
We’re all council…….and I don’t care!

Both my parents worked at Bournville too.
We lived in Elm Rd. On certain days the aroma of chocolate was intense.
I love chocolate too but today's Cadbury chocolate is a shadow of its former self.

$3 here so about 1.50. Not bad considering we are much further away from the factory than the UK.
The ones we get here are made in Turkey mind you.
Wait; what? They ship jaffa cakes from Turkey to Oz? That's fking insane. The ones we get here are made in Turkey mind you.
Even better is that Coles (one of the two big supermarkets) has own brand chocolate creams which are $1 per packet. They are in fact Bourbons made in the UK. Bonkers but I’m glad they exist.
Some of the other supermarkets also stock Tunnocks products

For the youngsters on here coking isn’t making Coca Cola
Wadsworth Road in Perivale (behind the old Hoover factory on the A40 Western Avenue) smelled of various perfumes when I was a lad: Ponds, Morny, and names I now forget. Later when I worked in the Hoover subsidiary factory in Wadsworth Road there was a factory called Soflor (later Polak's Fruital works) and the smells of essences, mainly strawberry, were stronger and more mouth watering than the real thing.
Even earlier in my childhood Lyons coffee was made north west of my home by some three miles, but on certain days when the wind was right, there was a strong smell of what seemed to be burned coffee -it was not pleasant.
My children, born and brought up in the Borne End area of Bucks, loved the smell from the Stewart & Arnold chocolate factory in High Wycombe when we went to Wycombe for shopping.
There seem to be far fewer industrial pongs these days.

i worked for a couple of days in the Horlicks factory.
mmmmmmmmmm. Didn't get much done.
If that was the one is Slough, it would have been 'complemented' by the Mars factories if the wind was in the right direction (and the sewage farm if it wasn't!!)mmmmmmmmmm. Didn't get much done.
I grew up in Guildford and the walk from the bus station, up North Street to the top of the High Street incorporated Fogwills Seed Merchants (lovely organic earthy smell) to the hops from the Friary Meux brewery to Importers Coffee Roasters at the top of North Street.

In terms of biscuits, you need to live in Carlisle, which is regularly filled with the smell of melting chocolate due to the Carr’s factory almost in the centre. There used to be a counterpoint of sour mash from the nearby theakstons brewery, but that’s now gone.
Generations of Carlisle kids brought up on broken biccies.
always made me laugh when biscuit factory was flooded and they showed pics of floating bicciesGenerations of Carlisle kids brought up on broken biccies.
