If I was an employer I wouldn’t take anyone on with face tattoos or any kind of overt tattoo. Simply because it would be my choice as an employer who I employ.
If someone getting a face tattoo doesn’t understand that it might affect their chances of getting a job then that alone would be enough reason for me not to employ them.
It’s their choice to get a tattoo and it’s my choice who I’d employ. Sadly I’d probably have to lie and give a different reason for turning them down, or sift them out at the application process if possible.

For instance zero chance in my sales team.

The worst thing about tattoos is they stretch as people age (and add lardyness), so the tattoos on their face will look shocking in a few years.
How many aging people do you know personally with face tattoos ?..My non face tattoos still look pretty good after some decades and some weight gain .

I am and it would seriously limit what positions I would consider some one for.

Why though? Surely having a more diverse sales team would open other potential markets. Tattoos are more normal now, I saw one article even arguing that people with tattoos have more creative thoughts and better problem solving skills. Not hiring someone bases on having a visible one seems like your missing out on potentially good employees for the sake of your own predetermined bias. For instance zero chance in my sales team.

Not everyone wants to work in a sales teamFor instance zero chance in my sales team.
The point is that having a face tattoo will “limit” your opportunities in the future. Why would anyone want to do that ?

It is the point. It depends entirely on what you want to do! I know a plasterer (not what I would want to do but he is very happy doing it) that is covered in tattoos, including his face. He still gets very high end jobs and makes a lot of money, because he is good at what he does. The point is that having a face tattoo will “limit” your opportunities in the future. Some people are happy in the work they do, and aren't always looking for opportunities in the future. There is a far wider world out there than sales jobs, customer facing jobs etc.

I have no desire to have any sort of tattoo, but I don't think having one would have any effect on my job prospects (developing embedded systems). kambites said:

I've interviewed people for that kind of role and I would be put off by face tattoos. Face tattoos are a literally "in your face" message that you want to be individual and different in a very provocative and challenging way. So as a manager I don't think you would be willing to follow existing processes and policies, that is to say, you would be a difficult person to manage, even if your skills were good.gmaz said:

So have I, and I wouldn't. Personally, I wouldn't want to work for the sort of company which uses interviewers who would take appearance into account when interviewing for a purely technical role anyway. So in that regard I'd consider being rejected out of hand by that sort of person as a positive not a negative.

I wanted to be an astronaut and then an F1 driver. Sadly it didn’t pan out and I had a get a mainstream job.

What you want to do and what you are able to do changes through your life. No one can “know” 100% how their life will pan out. This is just another restriction on their potential to earn a living at some time in the future.

I understand what you are saying. I'm also glad I didn't spend my life worrying about my potential to earn a living in the futureI wanted to be an astronaut and then an F1 driver. Sadly it didn’t pan out and I had a get a mainstream job.

Funnily enough I think male facial tattoos do a wonderful job of pointing out what an utter sad loser that person is.
I've met and know a few people with facial tattoos who I'm not sure anyone could accuse of being a loser. Well, earning six figures and running a successful business seems far from loserville to me. gmaz said:

It's not taking appearance into account, it is considering the reasons why someone changed their appearance in a socially provocative way.Edited by kambites on Sunday 25th July 13:27
