My generic £100 chair (borrowed from the office) finally feels like it is due for a change out.

This being PH I naturally want to splash out on a high end replacement biggrin

I notice there are a lot of refurbished office chairs out there and offering significant savings.

Is this false economy or a sure fire way to grab a bargain?

Just pick up a second hand Herman Miller, you’ll not regret it and it will last for years!

Originally SIX AND A HALF THOUSAND POUNDS. No wonder you don't see many unicorns now.

I have a Mirra 2. Don't buy an aeron without trying one first. The seat isn't particularly accommodating for longer legs.

I think with a lot of these companies it's somewhat pot luck as to what you get. I used a VERY popular company in the UK, ordered a fully refurbished steelcase chair - and whilst the fabric was nicely redone etc, two of the main functions of the chair just didn't work at all. They took it back immediately but the quality control is either non-existent, or somehow didn't happen.

I got a Humanscale Liberty from CorporateSpec - looked/felt like new. I think I paid £220...vs. about £800 new.

I much prefer it to an HM Aeron..

There have been tons of threads on office chairs over the last year, so worth a search for varying recommendations.

Personally I like Steelcase chairs (the Please 2 particularly) and don't get on with the HM range.

I have had both, Mirra 2 in the office and an Aeron remastered at home. The Aeron for me is far more comfortable and feels like a better bit of kit all round.

If you are looking for one I can pass on the details of the chap I bought from in London, Aeron fully loaded remastered for £820 that was basically in mint condition.

You might need the larger size C version of the Aeron. The vast majority are size B but many people would be more comfortable in a size C.

All good and well for you, but if you don't fit the Aeron then you just don't fit it. It has no forward/backward seat pan adjustment for a start. If your hip - knee length is too long then it just doesn't work. The Mirra does have this adjustment.

The bottom line is that you need to try a chair before you buy it. The whole point of spending such money on a chair is for it to actually be worth the money.

Threadstarter, if you spend anything north of £200 without actually sitting in the chair then you've lost the plot.

Tried it, still wasn't happy with it. And as you say every business selling these refurbished has vastly more B stock than C stock.

Easy to say, but often impractical to achieve even in non-COVID times due to geography.

Distance selling regs and their successors exist for a reason.

I bought a Noble gaming chair which unlike many lairy looking typical looking gaming chairs is actually pretty cool. Reminded me of a retro Porsche seat or something. Not the cheapest, not the most expensive seat around but extremely sturdy. If it's rated for up to 150kg sat in for 23 hours of playing Xbox a day, it'll handle me sitting in working from home!

Very nice. Does the seat make your bum sweat though with it not being aerated?

Can’t say I’ve found if a problem at all. The base is perforated but no different than sitting in a leather car seat.

The only thing I’ve found is the base is really firm and hasn’t softened in about 6 months. Good for longevity but just a bit softer wouldn’t go amiss haha

We have Secretlab gaming chairs. biggrin They're really comfy, well-made and I think they're about half the price of the fancy office chairs.

A freind has one and says it is great but bloody expensive. Another freind has a Boulies Elite which is a bit cheaper but not much.

Those gaming chairs are all generic Chinese chairs with different logos on them. They don’t seem like good value to me.
