Delivery drivers who don't use the doorbell but knock quietly on the door.
I am not sure they even knock these days, just dump it on the doorstep and change the status to "handed to resident" curse
Ours seem to have all agreed to ring the bell twice, knock so it sounds like they're trying to kick the door in, dump it and set to "handed to resident"

Not just parcels where they will leave it outside but takeaways who actually need to hand the food over.

It might well be the case that these people have never actually used or encountered a regular telephone, and so have no idea that a mobile works well in much the same manner and orientation?

Or they might just be monumentally stupid.
This is a strangely popular gripe, and I myself have been guilty of mobile phone ergonomic heresy.

Can we have a graphic representation of the correct and accepted way
of holding a mobile so as not to be the subject of ridicule and mockery.
The bit noise comes out of goes next to your ear.
Indeed.

There's a speaker at the top and a microphone at the bottom.

It's not rocket surgery.

In a lot of phones that's not correct. The speaker is at the bottom, next to the mouthpiece/microphone. So the noise does come out of the top, but only when you're not on speaker setting. Switch to speaker and the noise is indeed coming out of the bottom. My Samsung A32 Android phone is configured that way, so are millions of others, so when you see someone having an "on speaker" conversation, and they're holding the bottom of the phone near their ear, they're likely not being stupid at all, they're doing it right.

I'd send you a picture of the speaker on my phone, but, er, oh well you work it out. wink

It's still reasonable to be annoyed about people having speaker conversations in public places in the first place, of course.

I don't understand why a person on their own needs to have a speaker conversations, regardless of where they are.
I assume this comes from one of those reality programs where the camera/microphone would need to hear both sides of the conversation, but in real llife not necessary.

The above..and also - so what? Phones are pretty small and if both functions listen/talk came from the same part of the phone you could still hold the thing 3" from the side of your face.

There's nowt wrong with putting the phone on a surface and having a hands free speaker conversation, that's what the feature is for.

But why would anyone do that outdoors on their own on the hoof rather that just holding it in the prescribed and designed manner?

It's plain stupid. That's not even opinion, it's fact.

It's funny to think we all laughed when Q handed James Bond his new mobile phone in "Tomorrow Never Dies", pointed at the bottom and said "talk here", then pointed at the top and said "listen here".

I genuinely never thought people would be getting it wrong 25 years later!

I got a call today on my phone (rare event for me) and it's bloody uncomfortable holding it to your head for an extended period. I quickly put it on speaker and held it near my chest. 100x more comfortable

Neighbours extractor fan has been stuck on for two days. I can't sleep with it on and they are too retarded to know how to fix it.

Twitter became X on 23rd July 2023, however news sites are still saying X formely know as Twitter.
I wonder when they will stop that and just call it X.

I need to renew my passport (not a British passport).

Went to the PO yesterday and got the photos.

Started the application late yesterday. It generates a single page you take back to the PO for them to lodge. The form includes 2 spots for photos, 35mm wide and 45mm tall - exactly the same size as the pics I got yesterday. So I carefully cut out 2 of the 6 pics and head back to the PO earlier today.

“Have you got more photos? These are too small.”

I pointed out they were the same size as the box on the form, and as the requirements.

“Nope, too small. They need a white border around them. Get more photos and don’t trim them.”

I just stood there looking confused for a moment and walked out, before I said what I was thinking…

The white border seems an unusual requirement.

He claimed it was so they could resize them…despite them being the right size!!

They come in a sheet of 6, so I’ll go back again and they can trim them to size.

X is a stupid name. People including myself will still be calling it Twitter in 10 years time (if they're still around then).

Maybe it is but thats the new name. If a lady gets married and takes her husbands name, will you still call her by her maiden name?
