Thats an Iphone user for you.

Not being locked down and locked into Apples prison is priceless.

BTW, almost no one has a single phone for 7 years. Most Iphone users (the used) replace theirs every year, meanwhile the £300 phone I have does everything a £1100 phone does and will last 2-3 years unless you want to update

And you enjoy driving your Austin Allegro, it is a sporty 1.3 after all.

Just on 5 years now with my iPhone XS...and I still use my 8 year old iPhone 6S to control my Osmo camera

I only bought the XS as the 6S was having trouble running the DJI Fly app to control drones
I'm another one who doesn't replace phones unless I need to. My smartphone history is Galaxy S2 > Galaxy 7 Edge > Galaxy 21A (my current phone).

The whole cost vs how long they last doesn't take in to account the second hand value though. The equivalent iPhone would have cost more than my S22 when I bought it, but 2 years on will have a considerably higher resale value, so I'm not sure there's that big a price difference for those who replace thier phone every year or two.

I never understand technology fanboys though. Your phone works every so slightly differently to mine, so what?

In 'the old days' I used to get a new mobile each year (contracts were yearly to begin with) and counted down the days till I could get a new phone. Back then though, the features on mobiles came on leaps and bounds in short amounts of time and a new mobile really felt like something 'shiny and new'.
These days I'll hang out a Samsung for a few years but pretty much the only thing I notice about a different one is a better battery life.

My backup phone is a Lumia 520, bought brand new in 2013 as my main phone for about £60 (I think).
Still works.
Obsolete as an Allegro, but still works!

Sincerest apologies to nephew Reginald and your good self paulguitar, it's just that I spent 2 and a half hours washing and waxing Ivor this weekend, and that's now 2 days on the trot that I've had to come home and clean it off!!! grumpy

Not surprising with the random use of $ and £.

Lazy sellers on ebay that use those F'kin AI generated descriptions that are about ten paragraphs long but actually tell you absolutely f*ck all about the thing you're looking at. JUST WRITE THE DESCRIPTION YOURSELF FFS!!!

And breathe....
I too have observed the increased incidence of this. The descriptions are quite inept, make the seller appear to be a foreigner.

A few years ago in a hotel in Madeira, that's what they did. Chap turned up with a his bird, let it fly around for an hour or so, that frightens the seagulls away, then he popped his bird back in it's box, got on his moped and off to the next hotel. But he said it only keeps them away for a few days, so he has to come and do it again. And again. His bird never attacked the seagulls, it just flies round and gives them the willies. So a job for life for both of them !

Not sure if you know this but it's a job here too, they have them regularly at places like Trafalgar Square and the Houses of Parliament to prevent the pigeons getting too cosy. The one in T Square is usually there very early, have seen him a few times. As you say, very effective and doesn't cause any harm (usually).

My Mrs had a chat with one of them the other day in London somewhere. She was a private contractor with her own Harris Hawk. Apparently they rarely catch a pidgeon, and they do they try to stop the hawk eating it, but do scare them away for a while.
