Things that annoy you beyond reason...(Vol. 7)
Discussion
Popping into Evans cycles in mid essex, to buy a basic kryponite D lock for my front wheel of my commuter bike, and after 3 minutes in store coming outside to find my bike stolen with the crappy aldi lock lying on the floor.
Ironically i was only in there after my bike was interfered with a few days ago, slap bang on the middle of very public shenfield high street between 9-6 whilst i was in the city, and my previous coil lock for the front wheel (fancy Kryponite lock on frame and rear wheel) was broken on said event. Due to the Kryponite d lock on the rear locking it tight to the railings they can't have been able to make off ith the front wheel despite breaking the coil lock. I leave my D lock at the station, so only had crappy cheap lock to hold it outside Evans. But 5.25 in front of store on a gridlocked with traffic road and pedestrians about, and someone steals it in at most 5 minutes.
What sort of world do we now live in. It clearly wasnt cased out like when i had left it at station last week and was there all day, it was an opportunist, but who has the balls to steal a bike in such a risky scenario (i could have come out of shop any second, bike locks were 20 yards away.
Unbelievable. its not eh value, it was modest mtn bike 400 odd quid, its the irony and the short time it was taken and the inconvenience.
No CCTV that the store are aware of or i could see, but reported to old bill, who will do f all as ever, as too busy investigating online abuse or some verbal hate crime. whilst the actual criminals act with impunity. Sickens me.
A warning to anyone who relies on cheap locks.
We can't have nice things anymore as some utter scummer will nick them.

Moderator edit: no avoiding the swear filter please
Every sympathy for you on the bike.
But I imagine a city Evans store is probably as cased out as a railway station bike store. Maybe they won’t have the time available at a train station but if they have the tools….
In gridlock would anyone get out of their car to stop them; would anyone phone the police? No chance.
They’re brazen because they know nothing will happen.

When a DIY store online stock checker tells you they have lots of a thing in stock, but when you get there, there aren't any.
Using click and collect doesn't work either because if there's anything on your order that's in stock then you just get the "come and collect your order" notification and it's not until you get there that they fess up to being short on the missing items.

Lost dog postings on Social Media.
Most of them hundreds, and sometimes thousands, of miles away. Stupid pointless noise.
Shared Mogadishu. Most of them hundreds, and sometimes thousands, of miles away. Stupid pointless noise.
The main local group is set to be private which means people can't share content posted directly to it with a click of a button, that doesn't stop the same people posting "set to share" or "cant share" every single time. If they were that bothered they'd screenshot or save a copy and post themselves but by stopping them I think they're doing the world and their 8 Facebook friends a favour.
And then the dog / person / item is marked as being found yet you still have days of people replying to say "ope e fowd soon" or more "carnt share".
I swear people are getting increasingly idiotic.

I noticed that when I wanted a few bags of stone chippings. The staff member basically said it's because people nick them.Using click and collect doesn't work either because if there's anything on your order that's in stock then you just get the "come and collect your order" notification and it's not until you get there that they fess up to being short on the missing items.
