BTW, almost no one has a single phone for 7 years. Most Iphone users (the used) replace theirs every year, meanwhile the £300 phone I have does everything a £1100 phone does and will last 2-3 years unless you want to update

I got my first mobile in 1998, and changed it every 12 months, without fail, until contracts got extended to 2 years. But 25 years ago, the pace of change was staggering, so that a 12 month old phone looked like it was out of the ark. But now of course, the pace of change has slowed a great deal.

My father in law stayed with us for 6 months (what fun that was) and on his last day he took us out for a meal to say thank you. He sat on his hands at bill time, so I ended up paying. Wait a fecking minute, you all invited me!

Indeed. I've used Macs for years and all have lasted much longer than any PC I've had, same with iPhone versus Android. I've just upgraded my work iPhone that I've had since 2017 as it wouldn't upgrade software versions anymore.
I'm typing this on a Mac Mini that says it is a 'Late 2012' version. It stopped updating to the very latest OS version last year, but is working fine.
+1 for Mac, been using Mac devices since the 80’s, anyone remember the Mac Lisa?
We both use i pads and I phones, I phone 8 as they are not too big, we do not use phones for the web, only as a phone and texting.
One benefit on holiday, only one charger to take.
They both do everything we need, but I suppose we are not average Mac user.

Not wishing to start yet another Apple vs the world fanboy argument, but in what way exactly have Macs "lasted much longer" than your PCs, given that they both run the same internal components?
The usual argument is that their £1000-1500 machine has lasted for 7 years where as there £200-300 Windows machine only lasted two years.the-norseman said:

I've only upgraded because it's a light gaming boxen. It still runs a modern version of Linux quite well even though it can't play new games.
I'm not sure how long I have had my Dell XPS now, it was about £700 new and was a "Ubuntu Edition" , its running the newest version of Debian and is still as quick as the day I bought it. Battery life is about as good as well.
People that buy these £200-300 laptops tend to treat them like £200-300 machines, throw them around etc and they break, then when they buy a £1200 macbook they all of a sudden think I better now throw this around.
