I've done it with a number of cars, basically every time i've tried to buy something sensible I end up hating it within a few weeks.
Needed something sensible for a big weekly commute years back so bought a diesel Golf Plus. Within a couple of weeks the look of the thing really got on my nerves, it really did. Hated going anywhere near it.
Fortunately the injectors went and it was sold for scrap shortly after. Bought a far nicer Volvo shed that went on for many thousands of miles, not the trendiest looking thing by any stretcn of the imagination (2004 S40), but it was loved and not a Golf Plus.

Sofa again, best part of four grand for a gorgeous looking purple velvet sofa from Arighi Bianci (Posh shop in Macclesfield) after much searching, I wasnt that keen on how it felt but was sick of looking at sofas, I had preferred one at one of the chain places which was super comfy and this one felt wooden in comparison.

So, we both dont like sitting on it but spent too much on it.

And, M135i, its alright, 22 grand, like but dont love it.

I doubt you're alone, I worked in Finance in the early 2000s and a big part of my work was high-end cars, it wasn't massively unusual for people to want to get 'out' of them a few months after that bought them, sometimes it was because they were in high demand and they could make a quick 'buck' not mostly either they bought them for the wrong reasons (Ferrari as a daily?) or they never lived up to expectations.
Glad I am not alone, its seems almost sacrilegious to say you don't like something when the majority think the very opposite.
I think it's easy to get swept along with the hype with certain cars, but it's the same for anything, TV shows, Holiday Destinations! I once went on a Holiday to Bulgaria because everyone said it was amazing, what it actually is in my experience is a Dirty, Poor, former Eastern Block developing nation ran by the Russian Mob with a weak economy meaning you can live it up for a week for about £4.50. The tourist parts are anyway.

I'd guess the CSL was like that? I certainly remember a lot of people who put down big chunky deposits on them and the M5 actually, sometimes almost forcing the dealer to take their money before the cars were even officially announced, for most of them the first time they sat in a CSL was the day the dealer handed it over. I know they're still held in very high regard, but they can't be everyone's cup of tea.

I spent £450 for a "design your own" suit from Moss bros Navy with a very subtle gold grid pattern and a double-breasted waistcoat (It was a lot of money for me, we can't all be company directors!)

In of itself it looks great, but it's too formal for everyday casual wear, I don't have any ties or shirts that match it, and brass buttons mean I can't wear it to work or college without looking like a pillock. I only ever got to wear it once on a night out and I kept my coat on most of the night because it was the middle of December.

Now I'm too fat to fit in it. cry
Similarly, I bought a Boss suit for work but didn't realise the difference between wool and linen. After wearing it for a week and ironing out the wrinkles every day, I gave up and bought a wool suit.

I think I wore it once more before it got permanently assigned to the back of the wardrobe. I can't throw it out, it was expensive.

My first house when i was medically discharged from the forces. The area was an ok area initially. However as I was just moved in they built some council offices nearby which mysteriously ended up being never used then turned into a job centre.

Literally within a couple of months of the job centre moving in, crime rocketed, the place was frequented with scum pretty much all day as many of them would skank lifts off mates then hang around for a few hours before being able to get a lift back. Junkies and pot heads everywhere. Quite regularly had to tell them to fk off from the alley by our garages and kept finding needles. Robberies and muggings became more common, daytime burglaries (probably while waiting for a lift!) and it changed from a normal place to being scummy in months.

Literally hated the place. Couldn't walk anywhere without getting abuse and if you didnt keep head down and answered back youd end up in a scuffle. had several attempted break ins so had to beef up security even more.

Area got so bad they had to bring in an alcohol ban in the area.

So had to sell up. I was planning on being a student soon so it made sense. Couldnt fking shift the place. To be fair you cant blame people for not wanting to live there! In the end I had to sell it at a £20k loss. Might not sound sooo bad with current house prices but it was an £85k house when I bought it so lost a quarter of its value which is mad!

Was especially annoying as the deposit was paid for from my military disability money and i lost it all and more selling up. I was already pretty mentally ill when I moved in and when the place got worse it sent my PTSD into overdrive and i basically ended up in my own little war against the chav scum much to the Police's and social services delight. Its a good job I didnt have firearms or i would have gone postal against all the chavs like the end of the film " The veteran" when he shoots all the chav scum. lol

Not expensive in the grand scheme of things but after being told an air fryer is the best thing in the world spent £150 on a Tefal Actifry plus.

It’s junk. Those that told me it’s great then confirmed they never use theirs! Absolute waste of money.

How long have you been on here J4cko? and you've not worked out im nuts yet? lol.

On paper i am technically sane these days, and have been for 10 years, as I don't see a shrink or get counselling (because the NHS mental health services are screwed) and as im not cutting myself up or being pulled from bridge parapets etc i don't show up on any formal radar with the health system and its 9 years since i was last on the police and social services radar for being mental in custody. Its quite funny if you get arrested and they suddenly find out you are a bit psycho. Although to be fair to them, they probably deal more face to face with crazy people than the NHS as the chronic underfunding means the NHS treatment threshold is really high.

So on paper I'm sane, and I can pretend to be sane where necessary although I have let things slip a few times at work and got wierd as fk looks for it. Apparently normal people don't joke about self harm, suicide etc. Who knew?

Apple Mac for my wife to use.

Bought it "because designers use Macs"

Two grand or thereabouts, fairly top spec at the time. Utter garbage, regardless of what Fanboys say. Eventually she accepted that it was crap but she'd never really known any different.

My PC that I'm using now was built about the same time, for well under half the cost. It outperforms the Mac in every way.

I think 99% of kitchen appliances are like that. They're either way more faf than doing it the way you've always done before, they just delay the labour, giving you a chance to sack it off for a few hours (Dishwashers being the main culprit) or crap at the job they're supposed to do, but usually both.

The only device like that I've bought and actually used is the little Egg cooker I got from Amazon for £15 and that only because we needed something we could put on and then leave when we're getting the kids ready for school.

Those bloody smoothie things are the worst thing ever invented. It's great if you're a fantasist vlogger / influencer like my Son who likes to blend up all sorts of crap to show off to his school mates, but I've seen oil spills easier to clean. I've claimed 2 have 'Broken' so far just so I can bin them and save myself the hassle for a few weeks.

VW Tiguan R-Line. Bought without test driving (well before Covid so no excuse). Looked great on 20” wheels with lowered suspension but ride was rock hard. I knew within a mile of leaving the dealers I had made a dreadful mistake.

I farted about with buying smaller wheels (with winter tyres to partially justify it), but after a couple of months I chopped it in and lost about £4k.

Just remembered another one. I had a Lotus Evora which was stunning but online I'd seen an exhaust that sounded awesome in the US so I took my car to a specialist to have them make one up. On the way I followed Mrs 111R who was driving it and remember listening to it and thinking 'That sounds pretty good as it is, it's probably the soundproofing that makes me think it's not very loud.'

The design was effectively a straight and very short pipe so....

I went to pick it up and they started the car and I thought, instantly, 'That's coming off!'. It was SO loud. To save face I said it was great. They said the only thing louder had been a decatted Diablo. When they ran it up the trading estate to test it EVERYONE came out!

Driving to work in the morning was misery and a few weeks later it swapped it back. Goodbye £550!

Not quite the same, but I think I've just about managed to swerve one this week.

Golf 8 Clubsport. White one, currently sat in local dealer. Unlike most, I have fallen for its looks and reviews are great - I was just about to sign on dotted line, when very late the evening before a review pops up on my phone by a guy on Youtube who has just bought one (without much of a test drive due to Covid 19) - complaining / explaining that the ride is very firm. In fact, you could see him wobbling around as he drove along talking to the camera.

I hate unnecessarily stiff riding cars, especially on our roads - that would have been a 3 year deal which would have driven me insane.

Its fair to say emailed the deal first thing in the morning......

Last year I had exactly the same predicament. Wifes laptop was on its last legs and she really likes her iPhone. I though stuff it, may as well get her something decent and bought her a decent spec mac air. Circa £1700. (I ussually loathe apple products so it was a big step to go against my better judgement)

She doesn't like it, can't work it out, generally hates it and always asks to use my laptop which is a HP mobile CADstation behemoth running Windows.

I think its probably a program and layout issue above anything else, but its now so far removed from being logical that trying to swap between IOS and windows is tricky

I wonder if its an age thing. I couldn't tolerate a stiff car for a daily these days. I have a old school massive 4x4 and the roads round here you still get thrown around and many pot holes sound like you've written the car off so sod doing that in a rock hard car. Round here the pot holes seem to be getting so bad that a 4x4 seems a sensible ROAD car which is insane really.

Some Pantherella socks. I watched Inside the Factory and decided I’d like a pair at £19 including postage. I won’t be buying more.

A Breitling Aerospace Evo Night Mission. Stainless bracelets are a much nicer wear than fabric straps. I should sell it.

A Tag Heuer watch that I got from my wife for my 60th but somehow ended up paying for myself at about 1100 quid.

Nice enough but a bit heavy and the problem is I never wear a watch.

I only bought it because I couldn’t think of anything else.

A long time back I bought an early 911 that had been used for hill climbing. Half cage, stripped interior, etc. My wife hadn’t seen it. When I turned up with it I think she actually cried. Luckily we had another car. I think she only went in it once. On the right road it was a lot of fun but other than that not really usable. Held onto it for about six months before selling at a big loss (for me at the time). Took my bike licence and replaced it with a ZX6R. My wife hated that even more!

We went through three sofas before arriving at the current set (Minotti). I think the problem with sofas is that you don’t really know what you are getting if you have them made bespoke. Looking at swatches of cloth or leather in a shop not the same as sitting on the finished sofa. We didn’t make the same mistake with the current sofa as we had sat on one with the same cloth. Also giving up on leather sofas and going for material was much better. More comfortable. Only downside is that being off white I do worry about someone spilling something on them. Still, seven years in and they have survived fine so far. Which is good as they were pretty expensive.
