Used Audi Q7 Help Needed - 2016/17
Discussion
Hi all
I am looking to buy an Audi Q7 for around the £30k mark so looking at 16/17 plates with 35k to 45k miles. I will be going for the S Line model but not sure which options to go for. I want the cockpit and air suspension and the wife just wants the pan sunroof. Also is it worth going for the 272 or 218. The main issue is that buying one with a sunroof adds £££ and I am not sure it adds anything. The wife thinks it will add a lot of light in the car, especially for our children in the rear 2 seats. Anyone have any experience with Q7s of this age with or without sunroof and the other options? Are they worth having?
Thanks in advance

She's right and you're wrong. That's why it adds £££...because it's highly desirable. Might be worth checking that the addition of the sunroof does not delete any other options. I know that with some cars, if you add a sunroof you lose something else, because the sunroof adds weight and so they remove something in order to offset it and keep the WLTP numbers. The spare wheel seems to be a common casualty.

Big glass roofs do make them feel bright inside when Audis are typically black and dark inside, the only other advice i would give is make sure you get a decent warranty and keep it up.
Thanks - I am planning on buying from an approved dealer so will get 12 months Audi warranty. I can then look at AA etc if I want it for longer. My parents have run Q7s as our family car since about 2006 - got their third one, a 55tfsi Black Edition in on March 20th, 2020
Regarding the 272 vs. 218 - having driven both our 2016 272 and a 2019 228hp, the difference wasn’t exactly night and day. They’re both basically the same engine, both nice and refined. If it’s a matter of a 218 with all the options or a 272 with only one or two I’d go for the 218, but obviously if they’re the same option wise just go with the 272z
I’d agree that all the options are worth it - I’d prioritise virtual cockpit above everything else. Air suspension is nice, but the 2016 car we had before this one didn’t have it, and honestly it’s not worth the 2k it cost as an option on a new build then imho. The sunroof is nice - however, one thing to be wary of is the sunroof doesn’t really cover the third row. The first gen Q7 had a separate sunroof for the 3rd row, but for the new ones it stops at the second, it helps lighten up the interior a bit but as others have said Audi interiors do just tend to be a bit dark! Lmk if you have any other questions.

The Pano roof is a desirable extra especially with Audi's normally dark interiors, another one to lookout for is the diesel hybrid:

It's really funny, each to their own and everything, but I could never imagine spending £40k on a used Audi, and especially a Q7. <shudder> Yuck.
Crack on though, if it makes you happy.
I'll be spending c£30k but I need a 7 seater and only the Q7 and the Discovery have enough Isofix points for the kids.Crack on though, if it makes you happy.
Just my thoughts having driven my 2020 Q7 for a year
- Virtual cockpit is great, I’m now being spoilt and won’t buy something without a nice virtual screen next.
- I really really wish I’d got a Pan Roof
- The air suspension is very good, I have no experience of regular suspension
- As long as the 218 isn’t strained by the mass go for it. I find that I have no want to drive the thing fast or hard and don’t feel I’d be missing anything at all if I’d go gone the lower output motor
