TL:DR I need a sealable vase as a ‘romantic gesture’.

Moving into new house (proper dream house) on the 15th. It’s my wife’s birthday the day before, and it’s obviously going to be a disaster, as we’ll be stressed as hell.

She’s said that the house is her birthday present, but I want to do something properly romantic. No instagrammable things, just something that has meaning, even though some may think of me as cheap.

Her parents died within 2 weeks of each other just before we met. They (and she) were from the Netherlands, hence big plant growing place, and her parents had a couple of Physalis trees in their garden, which she loved.

Fast forward a couple of years, I asked her sister (who lives nearby) if she could get some of the fruit cases, and I’ve now got a carrier bag full (I know it’s daft, and I could use any physalis, but this has a connection). I’d like a tall, thin vase maybe 80 cm high and 20cm diameter I could put them in, but crucially I want one with a lid (dust etc) that doesn’t look horrific. Any ideas, google has failed me?

Your description of what you’re after reminds me more of the specimen jars that places like the Natural History museum use to preserve exhibits. Have you tried searching for something like that rather than a traditional vase?

Would a bell jar work?
I can only find one 46cm high, though it is wider than a vase will be over all.
