Bon Jour Magoo, evenin' here . Having a Mexican flavoured meal. The meaty bits of which were grown here. Where in Fr are you ( approx)?
Spent a little time in Med coastal Fr 30 years ago. Some beautiful places.
Much of rural France is beautiful, and much of Paris in interesting.

I'd like to see New Zealand, but suspect it won't be until I retire.
The place that most impressed my memory is Villefranche, a bit towards Italy from Antibes, where I was staying. Simply stunning. Was only there for half a day, was there for a ( unsuccessful) job interview as a relief ( i b4 e) skipper of a large "yacht".
Paua I'm in mid west France a couple of hours above Bordeaux. Very rural here with a mixture of sheep and Limousan Cattle.
Cognac is not far and it supports a big industry of vineyards and Barrel makers along with associated business etc.

I've worked down at the cap d'Antibes on a construction project for a well to do chap in the F1 industry. Nice area but doesn't fit my wallet everyday.
I've not been to Villefranche yet.

I was in Christchurch in 2011 and saw the previous earthquake devastation! It was terrible and I spoke to a few people from there about it. We hooked up with a couple from there and toured in our campers together for a while, enjoying beach fishing and late night beach fires etc.
We will go back at some point.

Napier was very nice as was nearly everywhere else.

You've mentioned that awful earthquake from 16 a couple of times paua, would it be insensitive to ask about it, what happened, coping with it, and the ongoing repercussions?
For me & my industry, the economic implications have been severe. We lost 50% of our immediate income/ capital investment/ worth. I've been one of the people involved in discussions at ministerial level in Wellington - it's been a frustrating, drawn out process. Covid has seen a further 40% reduction in market price. Personally, ( a bit reluctant to share exact details openly, obviously), I'm down around 80% on 2016 pre-quake . I'm angry, even at small bureaucratic things that should be relatively insignificant.
That said, I know people who've experienced worse, the sun still shines & I'd like to share an oyster brekkie with G.R. or anyone here who'd care to visit. Sister's house was destroyed. Worse shxt happened ( for example ) on my wedding anniversary in Japan.
Sometimes it's hard to see beyond one's own situation.

Cognac is a very fine thing - learned to appreciate from a grandfather-in-law in Germany. When you're next for these shores, I'll have a place for you. Chch quake was a bit peripheral for me, co-incidentally. I'd been working Bank's Peninsula the day before the Feb 2012 quake. Landed my catch some hours before shxt hit the fan. And spent an evening at a wedding in Akaroa, by speshial invite - happened to be in the bar & meet/ chat to the groom's ( he was French, my Dutch friend could speak Fr) party in the pub we had that evening's meal in. Fun ensued.

Paua that's a very kind offer! Thank you. I've been lucky enough to expierience NZ hospitality before and it was wonderfull.

This next couple of years is for me to get all my skittles in a row to make things happen for us to start traveling again, all being well we will come to NZ and again to OZ to visit lifelong pals and enjoy new expierience's.

Hope you enjoyed your whisky old chap!!
And I hope you get a decent outcome from the ongoing hassle with the government over there.
Despite everything that went on last year, I'm surprised at how little it's actually affected me personally, despite a massive downturn in orders, a 45% reduction in head count at work and some huge changes at work, I remain relatively unaffected, I know that it's had a huge impact on a lot of people.

Here's a question for the combined minds of Trivial Towers

So .... Made redundant with my last day yesterday Friday,
Start a new job on Monday

Just picked up my prescription ..... Should I have gotten them for free as currently I'm unemployed??,
The pharmacist just looked at me and wrung up the receipt for £9.35

We're watching a film called The International, it's quite interesting as I've just discovered that Interpol are an intelligence agency not a police agency!!!

A bit stormy Bobbers but still, a fine festival and one that everyone should attend b4 they expire! Are you interested in a share of a race horse? Maybe a TT syndicate would be of interest?

In other news, I see we have a few more PH members posting hereabouts, which is nice to see, and I hope they continue to bring gifts of Trivia and other nonsense to the Lounge Bar. Battert awaits with a welcome draught of Absinthe and an application for a parking pass!

IOTN: I have ventured into old pastures which may be a mistake?

Good evening.

Up for the syndicate idea then, Bobbers?

I haven't seen a syndicated race horse thread on PH but maybe it's not permitted within the rules?

I reckon we could have some fun following 'Trivial Towers' around the courses competing in places like Lingfield, etc. with local syndicate members in attendance representing the rest of us!?

Anyone else interested?

Racehorse? We've already got a horse. Here he is with Battert and the 84th Earl:

Quite what we'd race him against is anyone's guess. It's a start, though...

Eve ning Bomma, old chap! wavey

Sadly, Hercules is long gone, but he would have been an ideal partner for Aled or Daffyd, to draw the brewery cart for Arthur at the SDA, when required!

What's all this about T junctions and discombobulation of the future assignment?

Norfolk has that effect... it's the proximity to cloggyland what causes it, I understand!

Evening P old boy < doffs Stovepipe >

Indeed, dray racing is where it's all at now. A spectacle to behold if there ever was one.

Yes, Norfolk does have that effect. Catching crabs at Cromer doesn't help either. We felt the need to head out east, we've just decided to go a bit further now. A bit further than Lowestoft, anyhow which I gather is about as easterly as we can go without getting airborne or wet. I will send updates, it will probably be from "FOB P"

We'll see how it goes.
