Additional trivial flashback alert - the very same thing happened to me at Southsea back in 1977 during another family visit via that London, we all set off down to the coast from Hammersmith in my Grandad’s Mk1 Granada estate in the pouring rain to see HMS Victory and went along to Southsea for soggy fish & chips, there I was minding my own business at the top of the concrete ramp when this huge great thing came up scaring us all half to death. The noise was incredible!
Evenin' gents, a rude & intrusive Q, if I may. Bobbers has just revealed his age, I'm wondering at the age of others here, following the above reference to 1977. I can clearly remember '77.I've got a 56th approaching in Sept, on the equinox.
Dinner, tonight, is homemade burger ( from the cow - named bbq - who lived here). Like all good kiwi burger, beetroot is involved.
Morning all

For what it's worth, I was born in 1962 so that makes me 59ish. However, as I'm clearly not all there, Futtette and many others believe my true age should be measured in "reverse dog years" so I'm actually around eight and a half. Which sounds about right, all things considered.I've got a 56th approaching in Sept, on the equinox.

One should, perhaps, stop aging in one's '30;s

I just turned 40 early on in 1988.
Despite this, I have never had a kiwi burger. I prefer meat to fruit. 🍔
But I do love des fruits de la mer.
Paua, your invitation to visit NZ and enjoy a breakfast of fresh oysters with you would be a dream come true for me, but I fear it will remain just that.
An unfulfilled item on my bucket list.
Unless I strike it lucky on the lottery, which is unlikely as I rarely buy a ticket.
New Zealand looks a beautiful country, but it's a bit far for Percy. And he'd need floats as well.
Perhaps I could borrow the pontoons from the Sunderland?
Happy birthday, Bobbers!
Today would have been my Dad's 97th, had he not been struck down in the first wave of CovPox. We're having a family lunch in his memory today, because we can - his cremation was attended by nine of us, including the vicar, due to Gummint regulations, and my sister was keen to give him a proper send-off once we were allowed.
This will entail my standing on my hind legs and delivering what can only be described as a speech. I must confess that there are other things I would rather do, but duty calls. At least it's a good chance to catch up with family we haven't seen for a couple of years.
Have a good Sunday everyone, and raise a glass or three to Bobbers! Happy birthday, chap!

Morning chaps
Thanks ever so much for all the birthday messages, much appreciated!!!
I'm gobsmacked at how many of you are 56!!! 1966 was obviously a happy year!!!
Dermot O'logical, enjoy your family get together, remember all the fun times with your dad.
Reading the ailments lists, my legs/hips/knees seem to be OK at the moment, the lower back/neck are under constant maintenance by Chiropractor and both my shoulders are buggered from my time as a body builder, a whole lifetime ago!!!!

I'll be 56 in December. I've got one slightly achey hip, but apart from that I'm good. I've been on a bit of a health kick since the start of lockdown, have lost a stone and a half, now have visible abs for the first time in twenty years and can manage 200 push ups in half an hour. Fitter now than I've been in a decade, and possibly even in the last twenty-five years.
That stone & an 'alf you lost - I've " found" half there-of since xmas, My wetsuit is starting to look like the photo posted by Bobbers a few pages back.
Aforementioned elbows & shoulders prevents push-ups - used to be able to do one handed.

Over the course of this pandemic, I have lost a stone: - mostly muscle.
Luckily, by way of compensation, I have put on two and a half stones of flab.
I used to be quite fit:

Starting whitebait season is always good - involves some quality time with some friends/ camaraderie. The other part of the post - having to recognise physical fitness deterioration due to aging - less than good in a job requiring just that. I'd like to be 30-40 again/ 25-35, even better.
Breathing through a bent piece of garden hose/ snorkel is better at 25 than 55.
What jobs are available at wemakeplanebits.com? that are geographically flexible? I could be a whisky taster, perhaps - long bow needs to be drawn, but I miiiight be persuaded.

As for wemakeplanebits.com, we're screaming out for skilled machinists, fitters and inspectors, we can't get skilled people in though!!!
And if there's a whisky sampling/testing job going I'll fight you for it!!!

One of the consequences of sending everyone with more than eight braincells to uni to study something useless is that we forgot that the technicians are a significant part of what makes the great bit of UK manufacturing great.
